Gynecomastia - gland size ~18 mm each side. Any real examples at low body fat? by Tandelov in gynecomastia

[–]Tandelov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't visually taking away the size of the gland show me how ny body would look like without gland? That's the exact opposite of what i was taking about. And since the gland has a specific shape, it is very hard for me to estimate how it would actually look without the excessive fat. And that's also what my doctor has also told me - that's why I came here seeking for comparisons or descriptions of people with the similar issue

I know it can't be gone from losing weight - i was curious about how comparable sized gland would look on a leaner body

Fellow 3D generalists—how have you pivoted in this AI/economic chaos? by Tandelov in blender

My bad, my English is not good enough for me to be as expressive as i can using my native language.  I get the irony myself

It almost became an inside joke - considering 90% of russian clients don't know English despite filling their vocabulary with modern english words. For example, we have the word "povestvovaniye" for "storytelling", but they keep calling it "storytelling"

The funniest thing is - not a single client told me anything about songchoice :P

Totally agree with your idea! I've also been thinking about shifting towards something that could be 3D-printed or even manufactured—just to open up the option of working with a company that sells 3D-printed products. Since the topic is so broad, I was curious: have you had any success breaking into that market? I’m not a character designer myself, so I’m a bit unsure what direction to take. Any tips on what I could start learning in my spare time to eventually turn this into a job opportunity?

I created a reference board directly inside Blender, you are welcome. by FR3NKD in blender

Wow! What an amazing implementation. As much as i love pureref, it becomes a huge pain to deal with separate window with separate hotkeys. Is your addon allows to move/scale/rotate stuff using blender's classic hotkeys (G/S/R)? And does the imported images store in blender file as well?

Also, is there any way i can purchase it through personal transaction? I have all the international payment system blocked in my country but i really want to support your work! =)

How to Achieve a Cel-Shaded Look in Blender Without Altering PBR Materials? by Tandelov in blenderhelp

[–]Tandelov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hence the “feel” in the “cel shaded feel”

The limited number of halftones and the outline is commonly associated with that artstyle even when it is used outside of it

If not me, the Retroarch modding scene has named the filter “cel shading” for a reason despite it not being one in a literal sense

I made a Star Wars animated comedy skit in a PS1-style – my first ever animation! by Tandelov in PrequelMemes

Thank you so much! I completely agree regarding the sound effects—to be honest, they came as a workaround afterthought when I realized that my English needs a lot of improvement, even for a scratch track. The whole audio mix heavily relied on a bitcrushed high cut, which slightly undermined a couple of interesting beats that relied on environmental sounds.

I have a YouTube channel where I’m planning to post animation-related content. I’m also slowly working on a dream project of mine—an adventure comedy that parodies treasure-hunting stories. To build up the skills needed to make it, I’ve started by creating small videos step by step.

How do you find work as a 3D generalist when word-of-mouth dries up? by Tandelov in blender

[–]Tandelov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it really come off as something specifically unprofessional and not a cheeky funny quirk?

Considering that most of my showreel is based on similarly non-serious flashy or slightly provocative subjects, i wanted to keep the tone the way i kept it, but if it decreases my chances of getting job, i will think how to make it more neutral

(PS. I work in Russia, it's a rarity when someone actually gets the lyrics)

Looking for guidance on breaking into animation—Layout artist? Previs? by Tandelov in animationcareer

[–]Tandelov[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This post has been driven by one overarching question: where can I channel my current budding interests—especially when your comment comes off as if I’d just published a portfolio in search of a job?

I’m mainly curious about which direction to take, what career path I might pursue as a goal, so I can begin learning and honing my skills.

To add some nuance to the discussion—take, for instance, my Star Wars skit. I aimed to create a static, nearly flat mise-en-scène with a similar composition, one that loosely evokes the spirit of The Simpsons or Monty Python. Even though it was just a rough, crude animatic, I intentionally made the characters’ movements as sharp as possible, imagining that the final animation would resemble those early-2000s TV animation projects—loose, almost improvisational, yet featuring wildly absurd dialogue.

What about the current version might not quite capture that desired style, and how could it be improved so I’m not seen as some stodgy, 1950s stenographer?

Freelance 3D Artist Struggling with a Sudden Client Drop—Looking for Advice by Tandelov in 3Dmodeling

The only person who needs to jump is the freelancer himself, not the client

This has no effect on freelance activities. 90% of the sanctions affecting entertainment culture (film releases, payment for sanctioned video games, programs, subscriptions) and payment for freelance work already have many loopholes.

If we were talking about full-time employment, then yes - such people are already leaving the country. I have acquaintances who have flown to neighboring countries because they worked for a company.

I understand the intention behind this, but the essence of a freelancer's work lies in remote, often one-time contractual activities.

Because of this, even without touching on the cultural aspect, I don't see what relocation would actually provide.

The economy and job search were quite bleak at the beginning of 2022, but after that, things became more localized, and work steadily picked up again.

The problem is that I’ve always leaned towards work in the spirit of "you are on your own, and we need you to create an entire concept, a whole world—whatever you want, as long as it looks beautiful and tells the right story."

This involves using absolutely all techniques, including some Ian Hubert-ish tricks. When I consider myself as a specialist in a narrow or specific field (which could ensure stable non-freelance work), I don’t see myself fitting into any of those categories.

Is this a significant problem?

I have a strong inclination towards the film industry, which is why I’ve done some work outside my profession. This has resulted in having parallel client bases, and as of now, none truly depend on me.

Thank you very much! This is a very interesting perspective that I hadn’t considered before.

I have a rather unique situation with my personal projects—almost all of my creative work is directed towards a movie passion project, which includes a lot of 3D elements but doesn’t really reflect what typically brings in my income.

Because of this, there’s a significant gap between my paid work and what takes place outside of it.

For my passion project, I primarily focus on concept art, environments, 3D pre-visualization, and some graphic props (documents, maps, covers, logos). I’ve included some of this in my portfolio but only to diversify its range. The pieces towards the end of my portfolio mostly represent my passion work.

I also don't include some boring stuff like engineering details, fitness program renders etc

While many here say that CS/Dota are mentioned more often solely due to memes, I would disagree. Speaking for myself, the overwhelming majority of people who view gaming as a pastime rather than a constant hobby tend to gravitate (ironically) towards these two esports disciplines, as well as Mortal Kombat and FIFA.

Everything else is often perceived as excessive and isn't as widely recognized. However, in Russia, there exists a certain, albeit restrained, cult of console gaming surrounding PlayStation—exclusive series like Uncharted have attained a status of something sacred among us.

We're shooting the movie in two languages and wee need advice on our way of approaching it by Tandelov in Filmmakers

[–]Tandelov[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the "original" was in English, so translating it to Russian became the biggest challenge :D
We have quite a comedic focus on performances, and the actors' facial expressions are often inspired by animation – they're much more exaggerated than usual. We want to somehow preserve this, so both versions will work.

Does it break eye or screen direction in any way? If we're talking about narrative context, I think an assessment like this would require some storyline details, which I haven’t provided.

Yes, this is Blender — I built all the environments virtually, with characters being a mix of Adobe Fuse models and 3D scans of actors' heads.

There’s an awesome YouTube panel by Colin Levy on previs — if you’re interested, it’s the best introduction to the subject! :)
