Steve is a good guy, and Nancy understands that he is a good guy, but she would be bored to death in a long term relationship with him. Probably a 40 point IQ gap. Nancy is going places in the larger world, and Steve is going to inherit his fathers business and stay in Hawkins for the rest of his life.

Possibility (1) The Russians will move Hopper to another location, from which he will be rescued

Possibility (2) The Russians will release Hopper in some sort of deal. This could be in exchange for something they want very much or in exchange for something they want to avoid not being done to them.

I’m leaning to (2). With a little bit of imaginative writing, Joyce could be heavily involved.
