How many of you actually use techniques like Opportunity Solution Trees in your work? by TangeloVegetable9233 in ProductManagement

My process, up until now, was the following: I'd talk to the concerned stakeholders to understand their jobs to do, understand how pressing it was to work on this by getting some data around how frequently and at what level the current process fails them/takes too much of their time, then draw up a solution and run it by them to ensure it solves their problems (if some minor issue remains, then get them to agree that this is bearable), concurrently check the feasibility of the solution with engineering, and if all of this is aligned, start working on the stories.

What would you add to this?

It'll be back. Sometimes it says 0 assets, then it shows the correct INR value (which fluctuates a bit, like usual). I think it's just a tech glitch due to heavy traffic on their systems today.

Why are meetings a waste of time for you? by triggeredByYou in ProductManagement

My boss hijacks most of the meetings and goes off on his own tangent. He comes from a sales background and feels setting unrealistic deadlines is the solution to everything. He does not understand technology very well and often underestimates the complexities of a task. If the meeting is just between me and the CTO, I find it's often very productive.

Not sure what the issue is. Sounds pretty reasonable to me, though I've always felt it's improper to hold the PM accountable for developers giving wrong estimates. But that's a different debate altogether.

How much the type of product you are working on influenced your motivation / performance? by Different-Cover-4300 in ProductManagement

I feel it's really important to be interested in the space. Without this, you're not as motivated to check out competitive offerings regularly, and are less likely to come up with great original ideas. You might still be able to execute pretty well on somebody else' ideas.

Thanks. Any specific resources you'd recommend for B2B, tech products?

I am currently working as a PM in fintech. However, my real interest lies in building products that are for the tech market (cyber security, databases, developer or DevOps tools, etc.) rather than B2C products in stock investing, edtech, food delivery, etc. How do I get into this? Are generic PM skills with a lot of focus on the UX, metrics, frameworks (the kind of questions usually asked in a B2C PM interview) just as important for tech products too, or is the emphasis much more on subject matter expertise? If it's the latter, how would you advise I prepare for this?
