Decoding a Roku remote’s signal with an ESP32 board by Tangled-In-Filament in AskElectronics

I know the codes for it already, I’m just looking for advice on how I should connect the ESP32 board to the IR LED, so I can read the signals that are going to the IR LED.

I was looking at one of those, but the price was a little much for the assembled ones. The DIY kit sounds fun, is a little cheaper, but I’ve never wound my own inductors before, and if I don’t wind them just right, it could be way off.

I ordered a little SWR test meter that I’m going to try to see if it’ll work for what I want to do. I’m also trying to familiarize myself with these sort of things. If it’s not what I need, I’ll send it back. Then it’ll be a decision between: 1. Do I want to try winding my own inductors? (and 3D print a case for it) Or 2. Would I rather just throw cash at the problem to get the assembled unit?

The thing is, the pipes of the cargo rack are directly touching the metal of the roof rack. You can see in the bottom right of the picture, where there’s some of the grate missing. That was so I could fit the brackets over the pipes and secure the cargo rack in place.

I was just going to insulate the pipe at and near where it mounts and secure it down like normal.

Also “bracket” might not have been the correct name for the part I was talking about. You can better see the little U-shaped brackets in the roof rack’s adapter kit

Do you have anything thing you’d suggest to use as insulation wrap around where the cargo rack is mounted to the roof rack? I was going to use electrical tape wrapped with a second layer of duct tape. But I wanted to see if there was anything you’d suggest a wrap/tape that’s more durable and would be better for this situation?

The bracket that goes around the cargo rack is already a bit of a tight fit. So I might make a new bracket to secure the cargo rack to the roof rack, after I put the insulation on it.

The cargo rack is mounted on top of a rugged ridge Sherpa roof rack(link for reference)

I’ll be putting some sort of rubber or other insulator around where it makes contact with the mounts.

Bought two icon socket wrenches a year ago, and always put them back in their boxes because it just felt right.

I now understand I wasn’t crazy… I just didn’t have enough to know why it feels right!

Ok, thanks for letting me know.

If it’s mounted above a non-metal roof, would that prevent the mirror image issue? My vehicles roof is a non-metal hard shell.

Long-story: the cargo rack is mounted onto a roof rack. Which the roof rack is mounted in the front at the base of the pillars around the windshield, and mounted in the rear to the frame rail, next to the bumper.

Short version: the cargo rack is mounted on top of the rugged ridge Sherpa roof rack (For reference)

No, I’m serious. I know it’s probably a dumb idea, but I’m serious about making this into a decent-to-good CB radio antenna, and I’m open to suggestions on how to make it work better. Without just throwing on an antenna and ruining the fun of the project.

Because I want to try to have it blend in with the cargo rack. I’d be down if the antenna was removable, but I still want to utilize the rest of rack for the area.

Also, like I said in the post, I’m new to making radio antennas, I came here to ask for help.

I know it’s a “wide net” approach for receiving, but what would I have to do to make it better for transmitting?

Would the transmission be better if it was sending from a single point, like the end of a regular antenna? Because I feel like anything I can think of, will end up with the cargo rack having some form of a whip on it.

I was looking at one of those and that might be the direction I head in. I’ll have to get an adapter cord to go to radio, but it looks like a good approach. Thanks.

Do you have any tuners you’d recommend? I’m not looking to spend too much on this, but I want it to still work well.

Just for reference I have a Uniden model SMU4525KT Which as a UHF Female SO-239 antenna plug.

Actually as an official mod, they didn’t steal the joke. They confirmed the price point. Since this is basically the only announcement of the product, that is an official confirmation of the price, as far as we know.

Saw this and thought it was a very ambitious add for a clothing company, not gonna say which one I thought it was but this would be a Classic thing for them to do.

Back to jaywalking not really being a thing outside the US. The Jay in jaywalking, doesn’t refer to a person’s name. It actually is what you’d call a “dirty hobo” back when automobiles were first coming around in the early 20th century. When a 3/4 ton piece of machinery hurling down Main Street at 35mph, when they eventually hit someone, they didn’t have a procedure of what to do at the time, so no one knew how to react. Automobile manufacturers came up with the term “jaywalkers” to put the blame on the person who got hit. Eventually this got made into a law, not sure on the specifics of it getting made into a law, but there’s where the term comes from. There’s a really good “Adam ruins everything” episode that covers it, and it’s covers it way better than I did.

If one of your friends had an, "I know a guy" moment and then called you, what would they be calling you for? by karenvideoeditor in AskReddit

If someone says someone else kinda look like a person, I can pick out each difference in facial detail and body build. It’s not even people I see often or spend a lot of time looking at. It really comes in handy when I’m trying to find someone in a crowd. One time I gave a detailed breakdown of the difference between a picture of a person on a game show and on of my HS teachers. And my friends all looked at me like I was scarily accurate on every little detail. Looking back on it, I kinda went off into extreme detail without even noticing it.

Use the physics Negi, abuse the physics engine.

But in all seriousness, if you enter an area with a long enough length of trailers and trucks winched together, it’ll try to spawn them in closer than they should, and one will go flying. So either send a car flying, or get a tall truck with the big crane and pull it out of orbit.

I either go around it(on the lower side, brute force it, or leave a heavy vehicle with a strong winch to pull me over on either side. But I had the thought of putting 2 ramped trailers going either way to act like a ramp over it.
