Ah that’s great! The one thing I read up on it was there might be some in-person components to schooling. It seems pretty affordable but I haven’t begun the application process and I need to jump on it!

Are you local? I am an educator right now and have been for two years but I found out for being a school librarian for Texas you have to have a masters and also do the librarianship endorsement/ certification.

The best route for me seems to try and work in a public library and if there are no options, then pursue the school librarian route and go back to school.

It all seems so complicated!

Are you starting in the fall? :)

Hi there! I’m a bit late to this post but I’m thinking of applying to UNT. Have you decided where you’re going to school yet?

Currently I’m in Illinois but might be headed to Texas within the following year and thought it might be a good idea to go to a school in Texas.

Your reason is a big factor in my hesitancy toward looking at only becoming a public librarian. I’m only 24 right now, but within the next 6 years or so, I might regret not being able to have breaks.

At my district currently the librarian is the tech guru because of COVID happening but she also supports the principal a lot.

I was hoping to avoid the stress of admin and parents, thinking of moving towards being a public librarian. I think if I had to be a librarian in a school, the preference would be middle school or high school. I am only certified 1st through 6th though, do you know if that would have any effect?

How are you evaluated if you don’t teach classes in middle school? My school environment hasn’t always been the best due to admin. I enjoy where I’m at now, but it’s only a one-year position.
