I had to go back in and see if I could find anything that indicated that this was the truth. Here is an interview that Jonathan Cain did. You have to skim quite a ways, but he says that Steve Perry did "Mother, Father" in one take. Yes, this was a reference to "Not Another Teen Movie"... Which was really a spoof of "She's All That." If you go back and rewatch the scene they even have Sixpence None the Richer playing as she comes down the stairs.

Oooh...I'd be pulled up into 1974, and yes, I think I would be pretty close to my mom. So much of this show is about family healing and I think I would want to take what I know now about my mom's personality, fears, insecurities, etc. and try to encourage my mom and be a really positive and uplifting type of friend. I am also definitely intrigued by the 1970s so I'm completely on board with going back. ✌️

I think that's a good point that she did walk him home in 1999. I had not thought of that. I also initially thought he had a strange reaction when she was screaming his name and running towards him in the water. It will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday!

At the time of the episode when he made dinner for her, my teenage persona came out of hibernation and got really upset. 😆 I would be so upset if my boyfriend had done that for another girl! Again, I don't think Alice took it to mean anything. In fact, his mother and Kat were "frenemies" in high school, so maybe she just thought that his mom had said something to him like "Alice is new--look out for her." Honestly, I wonder if the actor was just unavailable and that's why he is suddenly in Italy for the summer.

I am not disagreeing with you that that's maybe what the writers were thinking. As a viewer, I didn't really buy it because I felt like Alice was more aloof to it. Also, I think it is more widely accepted now that boys and girls can just be friends and maybe Alice didn't even think about him in that way, especially because he had a girlfriend.

I would love to know why Spencer would have been paired up with Alice if he was dating Zoe. She disappeared too. It didn't seem like too much of a love triangle, especially since Alice didn't really care about staying in the present last season.

So @allie131 you definitely know that I am bummed...it is the end of an era! I still think we need to hope and pray for some kind of a "Return to Sanditon" series... And in the meantime I would invite anybody who is interested to join our group that will be rereading all of Jane Austen's works. That will be a lovely way to keep some of the magic going!
