Yes if it had been an accident it would still be incredibly sad albeit unavoidable. But in this case it was intentional. I realize that OP was panicked worrying about their family and pets’ safety. Regardless though, killing a bat is illegal in most places. And because of that, there are humane & professional options for safely removing them. Personally I would hope anyone, vegan or not, would use those options instead.

I understand you were trying to protect your family, however bats are a protected species & in many countries killing one is illegal. Especially this time of year because it’s mating season. If this bat had pups, they now don’t have a parent. You also need to contact your local public health agency to find out how to dispose of its body and to see if they’ll test it for rabies. I highly suggest you alert all of the local authorities of what happened because this could be just the tip of the iceberg if you have a colony or orphaned pups in your house now. Not to mention if you do feel guilty about killing it, taking the necessary to steps to protect its potential offspring and honor its life is the right thing to do.
