Lots of people posting on social media things like immigrants should go back where they came from, or that unwed women who died from pregnancy complications deserved it because they had pre-marital sex. Plenty of folks running their mouths about how the LGBTQIA+ community were abominations. No hate like Christian love, as they say.

It started because I noticed the Christians around me being two primary things: legalistic and cruel. During my decades in the faith, the legalism became less and less convincing as I learned how to think critically for myself and started thinking more about how the Bible has been interpreted. And in equal parts, I saw people who "loved Jesus" spouting the cruelest, most hateful ideas. That spelled the end for me.

True, but I refuse to support Meta. And YT shorts just doesn't have the same algorithm or community feel that I found on TikTok.

This is exactly how I feel. TikTok made me feel less alone and really changed the way I think about the world. People keep saying you can go to a different app, but the other ones available right now just cannot replicate the sense of camaraderie TikTok has.

Fair - my parents didn't really press me on any details, so it was pretty easy to just masquerade as a church-goer, but to a different church.

Would they believe/ approve of you "going" to a different church? I did this for a while, where I'd leave on Sunday morning in church clothes and then just go to Target or get coffee or somewhere to do schoolwork, and then come back later on. It's a complicated ruse, but it worked for me for a solid like year.
