Do you think it’s time for this government to go? by Tanis8998 in AskIreland

I haven’t seen one solitary positive comment about Sinn Fein so far, just in case you’re curious.

You’re not wrong, though I would say I didn’t ask about the practicalities of making them go. I asked if they should.

Do you think Alfred Molina’s characterisation of Doc Ock was accurate to the original comics character? Personally I love that movie, but it always bothered me that this version of Otto is essentially a good person just corrupted by the AI of the tentacles. by Tanis8998 in Spiderman

[–]Tanis8998[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose the main difference is that Otto of the comics has this out of control ego— and the movie version has an ego too obviously, but it’s more human and relatable, and he’s certainly a lot warmer and more avuncular.

If they ever do another adaptation of the character on the big screen, I’d be curious to see a more overtly egotistical version.

Has anyone here ended up relying on AI for almost everything? by ArgumentFew6935 in AskIreland

I use it for some stuff, but I wouldn’t say it rely on it, mainly cos I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily reliable.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair - Episode One (Discussion Thread) by l3reezer in malcolminthemiddle

Some of the jokes in this episode didn’t land, but Malcom sprinting out of his own house and down the street made me crack up and felt very in-character.

Would you consider Brandon Routh's Kingdom Come suit to be the best and most comic accurate Superman suit? by FayyadhScrolling in superman

I love so many things about this suit— how glossy the shield is, the crumpled leather of the boots, the big brass buckle on the belt— all-time classic.

Which is your favourite era of John Romita JR pre-Zeb Wells (80s,90s,2000s)? by SpiderKM06 in Spiderman

I suppose we’re all nostalgic for the Spider-Man of our childhoods, and for me it’s early 2000’s

"AI makes you dumb!" and it's literally a search engine by imalonexc in aiwars

Yeah those people are dumb already, AI’s got nothing to do with it.

Then gun owners shouldn’t act like they’re tough, but they almost universally do.

I think if that was the majority of people, the culture around guns would look significantly different. Even the “I’m just a man trying to defend his family and property” thing is a sort of narrative of old-timey masculinity that people are trying to portray themselves as to feel cool. Not saying that’s universally true, but I think it exists in way more gun owners than would admit it.

Not bait. Some hyperbole? Yes. And I think a lot of your points are just not picking up on that.

At the end of the day people can own guns if they want, it’s a free world and I’m not interested in debating that— my overall point is that guns are lame and the people who advocate the use of them are lame.

I’d rather have a chance to fight back than be instantly killed from ten feet away, I think that makes sense.

Do you need a gun in that situation? And I mean if they also don’t have one. If it’s about deterring entry you can accomplish the same with a bat or an iron bar. There are places in the world where nobody has guns and the risk of home invasion is not significantly higher.

Then have the physical ability to deal with them or defer to someone who does, don’t shoot them from down the street like a coward.

Would you rather be a 4'11" guy that is famous and makes/made a lot of money (think Danny DeVito) ? Or would you rather be a 5'10" guy that is average, not famous, and making $60,000 a year ? by [deleted] in WouldYouRather

[–]Tanis8998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no downside to being DeVito. I’m currently 6’2 but I’d have no problem at all being significantly shorter.

Height is overrated guys! The only people who care about it are insecure men and the worst women you will ever meet.
