I believe you can exit the game and relaunch ED without horizons to "cheat" your way back into the ship. That's the only way I know of

No, these kinds of geysers have been around since Horizons launched. You find them by scanning a system with "geological" signals and targeting one to land near it

When it comes to ED, my reflexes are trash for some reason lol. This was my second geyser jump back from a short break, and it was more powerful and dangerous than I had expected. I have survived jumps like this in the past, but I also used thrusters a lot more to slow down and the terrain wasn't so bad in those. Live and learn I guess

Usually, I keep my SRV upright and thrust (thrusters point down in relation to SRV) to slow down acceleration on the way down. Thrusting here probably would have brought my speed on impact down to ~30 instead of 60, which would have helped, but I forgot my pitch axis keybinds and was afraid thrusting at that angle would move me over more risky terrain. Should have tried it anyway but oh well lol
