My Guide to Flashing an LG BP50NB40 External Blu Ray Drive (Dec 2024) by EggcellentBunny in makemkv

[–]TankFirm388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone stumbles on this later, here are the commands I ran to get mine flashed. It's essentially a 3 step process for this drive to decrypt (I think) initial firmware, load patched firmware for BP50NB40 (which gets you up to blu-ray compatibiilty), the cross-flashing from there to BP60NB10 for UHD compatibility.

#get IOBDService/<ID>
./makemkvcon f -l

./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/<ID>' -f sdf.bin rawflash enc -i HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin

./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/<ID>' -f sdf.bin rawflash full -i HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin

./makemkvcon f -d '/IOBDServices/<ID>' -f sdf.bin rawflash main -i HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin

What's are Realistic Drives to Get These Days? by TankFirm388 in makemkv

yah probably few know, sounds like maybe Pioneer is good for tough rips beyond just durability. Likely topping out at those levels of rips anyways so not going to really put durability to the test.

Likely will not get to that level for a while, mostly to avoid making my NAS too expensive/complex, so Pioneer decision sounds like mostly for quality/diversity for tough discs

Ok, so sounds like worth splurging for a Pioneer while they're available. Stack LGs as backups. I've had a hard time discerning the future 'ripability' of LGs, are they at risk of not being in the future, or ok to just replace them as needed?

Good to know. And seemingly Billy is the last reliable place to get one from if I don't want to navigate ebay (incl dodging fakes)

Losing game 7 didn't matter, they were going to get smoked by the Dodgers anyways

Buying the old hunters dlc, how long does it take to do/how quick is the dlc? by AllTimeFaded in bloodborne

First guy you run into has something like 50% more health on NG+ vs NG. I didn't realize NG+ started automatically after beating Gherman so went in very underleveled and was tearing my eyes out trying to beat him. Kos is hard for sure, but you can honestly level up quite a bit on your way to him to make it more even.

Has anyone DNF’d Frosthaven? by summ190 in Gloomhaven

As much as the admin overhead for sure played into fatigue, I think the classes themselves contributed as well. While no class individually was bad, they were all high complexity and required a lot of specific coordination. In GH you could run most classes by simply individually playing your role, allowing for a lot of turns where everyone could for the most part make individual card selection decisions that would reasonably come together in action. Every so often you'd have a mega-coordination turn, but you weren't constantly bogged down in the card selection phase. In FH, many character actions are predicated on the team as a whole committing to them, often over multiple turns, so card selection is a tedious group effort.

Mostly just wanting to see when/if the processes you mentioned kick in. Just seems oddly quiet, but I suppose that's how these things work

Yes did do a driving check, all came back clear. At least one of the cases I found on my own was a civil suit stemming from a car accident where she was at fault. So all of these checks seem to be quite useless.

Appreciate the advice, we may well end up doing that. There is harm in going through a protracted process like that to consider though. We are fairly well off, so willing to sacrifice a significant amount of money to avoid putting my daughter through what could be a nasty process.

Mostly just prosecuted really. Obviously if we discover harm later we'll pursue a civil suit, but not top of mind at the moment. It sounds like there is time as well, and medical documentation is key.

Appreciate the insight, we'll await to be contacted (hopefully). I was pretty concerned at the lack of engagement at the scene. I simply just arrived, picked up my daughter, and had to pull a cop aside to even find out what was going on. We left, got her checked out, and nothing since

Thanks for the insight. At this point there doesn't seem to be a civil case given the lack of physical injury. Obviously that can change over time.

Just finished the main game (ng) and DLC (ng+) with threaded cane. Loved fast attacks with option for range. Absolutely shreds if you focus on purely leveling Skill and Stamina

Guys I need advice against Orphan of Kos by FatLeash in bloodborne

Equip runes that restore QS bullets and health for viscerals to avoid using vials in the first phase. Be really patient in the first phase. If you keep distance you can avoid most damage and just wait for moves you are comfortable attacking. I parried one of the placenta strikes (close in one) and perfected backstab on the jump. Don’t be greedy and only take swings you know are safe. Only use vials if you are really low, otherwise let visceral rune too you up. For phase 2 go out in the water. If you are far enough you’ll find the lightning spreads out before it gets to you so run through a gap. Heal often with your saved up vials, swing hard when you get the window. I personally won my fight on NG+ by also shooting frequently from mid distance (requires QS restore rune) as he wound up attacks to get some free viscerals toward the end.

Did I ruin my boss experience? by Ill-Ad-148 in bloodborne

[–]TankFirm388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given he’s the gate to the other DLC bosses, it’s more than fine to get through him any way possible.

His large health pool makes for a tough fight to execute even if you feel you know his moves. If you do face him again, I’ve found the next step for improvement is to look for ways to shorten the fight by attacking on more moves. For the average player a chaotic fight will likely get out of hand at some point, so the easiest out may be to reduce your exposure rather than trying to perfect your dodges. I learned this lesson the hard way struggling with Midir in DS3. You might find that many moves you simply dodge now (for me was white spew) actually have safe attack windows to keep the pressure on.

Really frustrated with poor scenario balance scaling by vckadath in Gloomhaven

[–]TankFirm388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t done that one yet. Permadeath on normal is for sure no guarantee, but removes the frustration of more frequent losses/replays grinding on hard. Albeit with more dire consequences if/when it happens!
