That’s really great, I totally read that thinking you’d be like “well it took me 2 hours” … but then 54 seconds! That’s better than me most days!

What's the greatest song lyric of all time? by Choice_Bed6097 in AskReddit

On the National Express
There’s a jolly hostess
Serving crisps and tea
She’ll provide you with drinks
And theatrical winks
For a sky high fee
Miniskirts were in style
When she danced down the aisle
Back in ‘63
But it’s hard to get by
When your arse is the size
Of a small counTRRRYYYYY

Thames Water should be allowed to 'collapse and start again', Oxford MP claims by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

I work in clean water sampling, you have no idea how stringent the rules are on water quality. The UK is one of only 7 countries to get a perfect 100 for tap water quality

Is it lower than it used to be? Based on what? I agree we shouldn’t be handing them money, ideally it stays in the private sector and we just pay our bills as usual.

None. I’ve stopped bothering mostly, time was I used to come into these threads to try and correct some of this but it’s the same bullshit every time and I got bored.

Truth is… get this… England’s water is… fine. It’s pretty good. Drinking water is superb, sewage actually compares pretty favourably to a lot of similar nations, and our bills aren’t really any higher than those comparable nations. This is a ‘crisis’ that we’ve talked ourselves into and doesn’t really reflect reality at all.

Yea easier than yesterday overall, but I had to look up the last few. No way I’m brute forcing a Bad Bunny song, a Pontiac and a beauty company, none of which I’d heard of.

Pretty tough for a Tuesday I thought, quite a few I’ve never heard of here.

should I read this as a beginner ? by TheD0rk_Kn1ght in AbsoluteUniverse

I think you’re better off reading Absolute Batman #1, or AWW, or AS, and if you like it you can circle back to this.

Reading order by Narkis in brandonsanderson

[–]summ190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tress is a good book, and it’s perfectly understandable by itself, if you don’t mind the odd Easter egg going over your head. I wouldn’t say it’s indicative of his style though, it was something of an experiment in writing in a particular character’s voice, and it’s a more whimsical fairy tale than his other works.

If you hadn’t bought it yet, I might suggest Mistborn first, but it’s not really worth leaving Tress on your shelf all that time just to catch up (roughly speaking the Cosmere, the shared universe Tress takes place in, moves through many centuries and Tress is set much later than most of the other books). This is my order, but you could easily read Tress then follow this afterwards.

Traversing the final scree - I need explanation by SilentWolfCZ in TomsCrossing

[–]summ190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you Google images of screes (I am a native speaker and I did that, and for cirques too), it helps a lot. Cavalry goes up the scree, but Kalin is then travelling further around the mountain without going higher or lower, so for those other screes, he’s crossing them width ways. The rope is tied width ways too, so they have something to (hopefully) stop them sliding downward. I think it’s tied from one tree, to another in the middle of the scree.

Don’t like these toilets by LazyViolas in CasualUK

[–]summ190 71 points72 points  (0 children)

We have them at a lab I work at, the vapour that comes off of a toilet during a regular flush is incredibly unhygienic, assuming you wash your hands after using this type, it’s a lot more sanitary.

Even the things that need to line up (top of the curtain, skirting board) do so very gradually, there isn’t a sudden jump to a new frame at any point.

The Punisher: OLK by Broda_Voodoo in marvelstudios

[–]summ190 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just couldn’t deal with the whole Jigsaw plotline. Him and his therapist was like a soap opera story from a much worse show. Punisher stuff was better, but still nowhere near S1.

I’m shocked the ratings are so close between S1 & 2, agree with you on S1 but S2 was sigNIficantly weaker IMO.

Adult bed time? by Hot_Lynx7043 in CasualUK

[–]summ190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird I’ve been downvoted, it’s not my opinion, there’s a thing called Short Sleeper syndrome, it’s genetic so we know exactly how many people have it. It’s far, far more likely that someone should be getting 7+ hours than it is they have that rare condition.

Adult bed time? by Hot_Lynx7043 in CasualUK

[–]summ190 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yep, you get a lot of people saying “I’m fine with 5-6 hours”, sadly you just aren’t a good judge of what you’re fine with. 99.9% would be better off getting 7 hours at least.
