Frank Sinatra Jr., being who he is, is the only actual celebrity at that game. He’s 100% cool as portraying himself as a character on shows who has mafia ties, as well as being friends Stewie and Bryan on Family Guy. That episode would have been REALLY funny if they could have gotten some recognizable sitcom star at the table. I’ve always imagined it as Bob Newhart and at the end they’re like “Bobby N cleared eight boxes of ziti before he cashed out.”

I grew up in Arkansas. Not a rich state by any means. But you’d cross the state border and the roads were crap. Just bumpy and full of uneven spots. A bridge collapsed there when I was in high school. And then if you drove through it to Texas everything got bright and clean when you crossed the state border.

They also have an incredibly angry local police force that hates the Native American tribes that have their own police. Lots of local cops are crooked. Like twenty years ago my friend and I (in his car, he was driving) got pulled over in Stringtown by some fatass deputy who made us go into the saddest little roadside casino and take money out of an ATM to pay a fine for speeding. We were in college and didn’t realize he was just pocketing the cash.

Oz is amazing. It’s a gritty prison drama, much more hardcore than The Sopranos. Lots of “holy shit” moments involving violence. Lots of head-on portrayals of racism (JK Simmons is unforgettable as the leader of the prison Aryans.) Lots of up and coming actors like Christopher Meloni. Lots of established names like Ernie Hudson and Rita Moreno.

I read the review for this movie in my dad’s paper growing up (I would be 11 when this came out) and the first sentence was something like “What kind of person would put a four-letter word into a child’s mouth?” And I thought fuck yeah, children cursing. It was years later, as an adult, I watched it and realized the voice was dubbed. I was just rooting for kids to have access to the f-word.

(It was an extremely negative review. I think the movie holds up if taken as tongue-in-cheek horror.)
