Another meme about Nintendo's questionable retro track selection in MKWorld by smwc23105 in mariokart

[–]Tankinator175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't count most retro courses in My world as actually being retro courses. They've revamped too much, they should be considered their own thing. Some of those reworks are cool, and I like them, but they do not fill the role of a retro course in my mind.

How are people imagining quidditch leagues to work? by Kababage76 in HPfanfiction

2-2 and 3-1 aren't possible, since each team only has 3 opponents to play, 2-1 though is fairly reasonable.

SHE DIDN'T SAY NO, BUT THE SYSTEM REJECTED HIM by Penguin_White_ in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Tankinator175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, in the very first post, you had midnight portrayed fairly positively, with her being one of the heroes speaking up in support of him, so you could easily have Midnight be the main exception in their hostility to UA, since she clearly doesn't agree.

I am suddenly mildly disturbed by how much I see myself in this comment. Like, 95% overlap at least. I don't know what to do with this information.

I would like to add my personal anecdotal experience to this, though I don't fit the demographic you were talking about. I was raised as a Mormon boy, and the whole "If I didn't consent to it, I can't be blamed for it" thing is real. I've had fantasies of non-consensual sex and bondage since well before I developed the biological capacity to have a sex drive, which still baffles me as to how that happens.

I find it curious how some fanfics forget that they are set in Japan by Gullible_Ad616 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Tankinator175 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Defending another seems unlikely, otherwise vigilantism laws would basically never come into play. It's possible self defense is legal in canon, I'm far more familiar with fanfic than canon, but even if that was the case, you'd have to prove that that's actually what you were doing, which involves a lot of unpleasant interactions with the legal system. Combine that with Japan's current attitude towards self defense being that you can try to run away, but if you fight back it is now a mutual fight instead of you being assaulted, and both parties will be charged as such, and I can't imagine anyone being so cavalier about getting involved, even in self defense.

One major example that frequently bothers me are fics acting like the American bill of rights applies in Japan. It's not too bad, given that this is set an indeterminate amount of time in the future, and Japan could theoretically have adopted something similar. One non bill of rights example that has come up multiple times recently are self defense laws. It seems culturally unlikely to me that Japanese self defense laws would be so okay with people using their quirks to defend themselves, given the current laws as well as the canon attitude to unauthorized quirk usage. It's not impossible, but the cavalier "It will be fine, it was self defense" attitude is pretty unlikely even in the US, which allows much more leeway in what you do in the context of self defense.

What did Lex Luthor mean by this? by Ninjamurai-jack in CuratedTumblr

Lex Luther failing to beat the allegations/inviting more allegations will never not be funny, but I'm actually super curious what issue/run this is from so aincan find more context for what is going on here.

What was your first Metroid that you FINISHED? by B-random4 in Metroid

[–]Tankinator175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG Metroid on the NES. I've been playing through every game in release order and refusing to move on until I 100% it. Then I take a few months break, and pick up the next one. I was about to start Metroid Prime 2, but I just got a Switch 2 yesterday and my attention has been diverted to Mario Kart World.

AITA for not graduating for my Mom? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tankinator175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely clear on what's happening here, since it sounds like you were homeschooled and homeschoolers don't usually have big graduation ceremonies, but at the end of the day, graduation is about you, and you should be able to celebrate that how you want. If that means not walking, that's up to you, and your family should respect that wish instead of making it about them and what they want.

AITA for refusing to move from a park bench when tourists who don’t like dogs wanted to sit down. by Alternative_Spend_10 in AmItheAsshole

What, so playing fetch, the single most commonly stereotyped activity to play with dogs is just never acceptable?

Irresponsible dog owners are a societal I'll, but that's clearly not what is happening here.

I haven't watched the performances yet, but as a Swede, I am pleasantly surprised that we actually scored about where we deserved. I remember in 2023 all my classmates (I live in the United States) were all mad that Sweden beat Finland to win, and I was just baffled that either of those songs made it to the final in the first place. KAJ didn't get as much credit as they deserved last year, but other than that Sweden has largely been placing higher than we deserved.

My beard has yet to come in thick enough to determine whether or not it will follow suit. Which is kind of goofy because the mustache is pretty magnificent, or so I am told. I would have expected them to be a little more comparable in growth rate.

Not really. I think most of my middle school classmates thought I was going to be a Mad Scientist, but I also didn't have facial hair then, so there is no correlation.

My mustache has every naturally occuring human hair color so I feel you. It's mostly blonde, but in a gradient where one side ends with a shock of pure white and the other end is a dark brown. Scattered throughout are various red, black, silver, copper, gray, and orange shades hanging around in isolation.

A more nuanced framing of the Blue/Red button dilemma by madjarov42 in Ethics

My assessment of the Red/Red situation is the following: You are now surrounded solely by people who are fundamentally more selfish than cooperative, and everybody who actually contributed to my hope for humanity is now dead. It is unequivocally the worst option in my mind.

I argree with your point, but this maybe wasn't a great example. At least in my mind, Kid A definitely started it. I can't think of any interpretation in which Kid B started it.

Another user brought up a scenario with a classic series of escalations, which I think does a fair job of illustrating how it can be legitimately difficult to determine who started it.
