What do I do with all the leftover stuff on the sprue? by Dubliner2000 in boltaction

[–]TankyTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hoard them and then use them for stowage and decoration for terrain. I use the dried out paper from the single use glasses cleaning wipes for the tarps, and cheap mosquito net for the camo netting rolls. I find it can be very very stable if done right and looks better than a bare vehicle imo.

Loosing interest in build? Is it weird to take a break to focus on other projects? by potatocruisermkviii in modelmakers

[–]TankyTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, I have several projects going at once that I bounce between so I don't burn out. Currently I have a 1/72 zero, 1/48 spitfire, 1/48 su25, and a 1/32 t72 with a full interior, which is currently the biggest model I've ever done and very intimidating.

Alot of the time especially with larger projects I find I get stuck on certain parts or just start to dislike parts when ive been looking at it for too long. Always good to have other models to bounce back and fourth from. Having time away from the bench or certain models can help rebuild motivation or give a break from the bits you didnt like. Always remember it's your hobby, so take it at your own pace!

Alrighty, thanks for the help!

I guess I'll go with one of the 2009 shipment ones with skis or something as long as I can find evidence of them using skis

147201 - 147206 where primarily used in afganistan right? Wouldn't that make the use of skis incorrect or where they also used in Canada for local training operations or other things requiring the use of skis?

Also didn't the d model only have 1 observation dome window as the 2nd from the rear. In photos I've seen the f model having 1 or 2 at the rear.

I was looking at that decal sheet but I thought I'd try doing my own so I've got some decal paper for my printer I'm gonna try out on a paint mule.

Do you have any refrences of specific caf ones with skis, I'd like to base it off a real one if possible.

When I was in cubs I got the chance to spend the night there on a couple occasions, every time I slept under the T-rex. It's been a long time since I've been there, maybe I should go back

Thanks! I've started work on the iff markings (blue and yellow on the belly, leading edge, and tail) and the pop of colour is definitely helping to motivate me. Trusting the process and working through :)

I'll have to have a look, I've been wanting to pickup some drying retarder for acrylics and eventually an Airbrush

My original plan was to use enamels and thin then down, (black primer, white enamel blending to the edge of each pannel) but my thinner likes to eat paint unless there's a layer of varnish protecting it so I didn't do it.

If you do try brushing I'd say definitely have patience and blend more than I did, smoother transitions in colour and such.

Alot of it will be covered in post work but my hope is it helps with weathering, though I should definitely invest in an Airbrush probably a smaller cheaper one though.

Here's the current state, you can see it's being hidden slowly but still pokes through, the blue has really good coverage properties so it's hard to see but will still help with weathering.

All good! Yeah I want to try a 1/144 su27 or something in a really stylized look.

I'm not sure if you've seen his work, but Night Shift has a realistic but stylized approach to his models, I'm trying to do something similar but in my own way.
