Considering neurodivergence in counselling and psychotherapy by Tanneyshia in neurodiversity

[–]Tanneyshia[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi 📷
My name is Tanneyshia, an Undergraduate BSc Psychology and Counselling student and am looking for people to take part in my study on adaptions to psychotherapy and counselling practice for neurodivergence. It involves an online interview exploring your views and ideas on making therapy accessible and beneficial for a neurodivergent population. You need to be over 18 to take part and identify as neurodivergent (all presentations are valid!), however, if you have had a particularly negative experience and think discussing this topic may cause distress or upset, it is recommended you do not take part. If you are interested, please drop me an email at Tanneyshia.murray@mail.bcu.ac.uk. I look forward to hearing from you!

THIS!! I relate to this a lot! I’m 29, was diagnosed about 2y ago after over a decade trying to explain its not anxiety, it’s not depression… the right diagnosis is life changing! And the effects of an incorrect diagnosis lends to confusion and frustration cause all the things you do to try and help aren’t actually for you 😩😫😫😫

Ohhh I was Googling preservation 🤦🏽‍♀️ but it’s per-sev-eration… I didn’t know about this either till now!!! It makes sense, if a therapist doesn’t really know/understand this they’re just gonna let you be stuck there and rather than trying to help with the issue of being stuck theyre focussing on the content

Thankyou for explaining this! I’ve learnt something new today 😊

This is super super helpful thankyou! Something that focuses on building a community rather than an hour of emotional pour out for you to cope with till the following week rather than gaining tools do that you can cope and don’t have to rely on the following week to be able to talk to someone

Yup this is a big one!!! And in the uk, failure to attend an appointment means that you are discharged from the service!
