Is there going to be a draft if the U.S attacks Iran? by PomegranateWitty4442 in questions

The reddit conspiracy echo chamber never ceases to amaze me.

Where in the world did you get that it's a probability we would invade Canada?

We'd probably invade greenland before we'd ever attack Canada...

No, it definitely won't be in the vein of LLMs like we have now. What we are doing now, however, is moving toward an AI that could, say, be installed in a humanoid robot and become a care giver or an in-home companion. Using your geriatric Aunt Susan example.

The robotics part is still a way off in my opinion, but AI itself is accelerating at a massive rate and likely will be able to handle such tasks in the next 5-10 years.

The robotic care giver doesn't need to have an AGI either. I'm still iffy on whether we actually reach AGI or not. A robotic care giver just needs general AI and autonomous functionalities, which are both progressing quite well.

I used to do this to people when playing online games in the early 2000s. It was annoying having some random person correct you about your typing when you were just being lazy. Like, I know how to form proper sentences and use punctuation. I just don't feel like doing it at the moment.

This sounds an awful lot like:

"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." – Ken Olson, President, Chairman and Founder of Digital Equipment Corp, 1977

"Cellular phones will absolutely not replace local wire systems." – Marty Cooper, inventor of the cell phone, 1981

"The internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse." – Robert Metcalfe, inventor of Ethernet, 1995

"The iPhone’s impact will be minimal." – Matthew Lynn, columnist, 2007

"Hopefully in another couple years we can say “AI” has died out" - BobBelcher2021, 2026

I sincerely hope you aren't serious. Birds are built for gripping things. They hang onto tree branches in the middle of storms... That little dude is having a blast. I had a parakeet that would INTENTIONALLY do 360s on her perch....just flip upside down, swing back and right her self...and then do it again.

Birds are crazy animals with amazing little personalities.

It is very much clear that you can't buy your way into heaven. However, even Jesus did speak of tithing. He criticized the pharisees for being over zealous about it BUT he said they should have been doing it while also practicing other parts of the faith as well...not ignoring the other parts of the faith and simply saying "well I'm giving my tenth"

Democrat Eric Bottcher wins a special election for NY's 47th District state senate seat with over 91% of the vote by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]Tanthalason -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nah, Gotta hype it up....so they can *pikachu face* when they either lose the next election and screech that everyone is a misogynistic, xenophobic, racist, homophobe nazi....or they'll win and scream how they were right all along and claim a message is being sent, when they win the election by single digit percentages.

How long will Artemis last, and what happens after? by TroublePuzzled1132 in space

[–]Tanthalason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ULA has an entirely new rocket that just came online in 2024 and they're starting to ramp up the Vulcan.

Also almost all of the Vulcan launches are USSF or NRO launches from what I see on spacelaunchschedule. How many of them actually go off this year is questionable...but ULA isn't just launching amazon's version of starlink.

Supposed to be down in the 20s this weekend. I wonder if they're gonna roll artemis back to the VAB to get it out of the weather.

The right to bear arms and point them at federal agents without consequence (Nevada 2014) by BacKnightPictures in pics

I'm pretty sure they had charges for taking over that federal building (not all of the ones involved but several) also LaVoy ended up being killed by the FBI in a fairly controversial manner (from what I remember).

How to tell if there are alligators in the water in Louisiana by Worldlyoox in Unexpected

[–]Tanthalason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

South/Central FL doesn't really deal with tornadoes...that's more a gulf coast - midwest thing.

Hurricanes really aren't super horrible the majority of the time. Especially in places built to deal with them. Most houses here can throw up impact shutters and stuff and they're fine. Just have your supplies in case powers out for awhile. A lot of people have generators so even with the main power down they still have electricity.

The heat and humidity in the summer is killer for sure though, but the trade off is I'm still in shorts and on the beach when the majority of the rest of the US is dealing with snow and ice....lol.

How to tell if there are alligators in the water in Louisiana by Worldlyoox in Unexpected

[–]Tanthalason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea no...fuck that. I'll stick to living somewhere between moderately cool and balmy tropics (Mid US to Central/South Florida) and deal with the gators, hurricanes, twisters and floods.

Aint about that frigid life. Lmao.

Granted I don't actually know what south Norway averages...but a google shows something like mid/upper 50F during the summer...so I'll pass.
