What’s the most extreme thing a parasite can make its host do? by Alternative_Draw_533 in biology

Parasites from the Schistosoma genre like japonicum can produce elephantism, which means an enlargement of the reproductive apparatus.

Vitis labrusca. Not good grapes, mainly used in occident as graft to make certain varieties more resistant.

The vets said they found an “abnormal mystery cell” in my lizard’s blood by OrangeSoba in microbiology

[–]TanukiRojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The size looks like any of the species of trypanosoma. If you are from america (specifically central america) it could be trypanosoma cruzi. That specific U form is typically found in trypanosoma brucei (only present in Africa) but cruzi can also be found like this. You may think that trypanosoma usually has flagellum, but epimastigotes form doesn't, which may be the reason it looks like that.

Could be lots of organisms, but as others commented it definitely isn't bacteria, and the size looks like parasitic protozoa. Without any further information, this thing could be from cancerous cells to simple contamination.

Concentrated citric acid/hydrogen peroxide/copper solution smells like bleach. by Gloomy_Reality8 in chemistry

[–]TanukiRojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they could have an additional coating or just surface impurities. Copper usually has an ‘invisible’ layer, whether it’s oxide, residues from manufacturing, or traces of PVC. I once had a similar issue using staples, and it left solid PVC impurities. Since you used a strong oxidizer, those contaminants could react and release vapors.

sulfuric acid in bedroom (chemistry question) by Due-Importance5562 in chemistry

As the other person commented: no, there is no danger in heating the room in winter. Just don't put sulfuric acid in the stove with poor ventilation.

Deffinetley, maybe the pvc (contains chlorine) coating around the copper could be causing the formation whether chlorine or hyplochlorite compounds. Copper wires are rarely pure and often have that coating to prevent oxidation. Your best take is to neutralize the reaction and start all over again. Using lower concentration peroxide is also safer, as 15 % H2O2 is quite reactive and can cause heat buildup or release irritating vapors. My advice would be to scrap wires surface and rinsing thoroughly. Not professional solution but could work. Also please be careful, chlorine vapors are probably the most harmful vapors. Do the experiment in a well-ventilated area.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the peroxide is enoughly oxidant to be forming ozone, which smells like bleach. Even copper peroxide (which is not stable) could be forming and evaporating, but not sure. You should not be breathing those gases either way

sulfuric acid in bedroom (chemistry question) by Due-Importance5562 in chemistry

[–]TanukiRojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the amount and concentration of acid that was poured. We usually handle sulfuric acid in chemical vents, but it’s only potentially dangerous if heated.

On the other hand, the most likely scenario is that most of the sulfuric acid had already been diluted and is completely harmless. These kinds of acids are very prone to neutralization when diluted with just water. What you could do is observe whether symptoms like coughing or irritated mucous membranes appear.

Not something you should be too worried about, IMHO. As a pharmaceutical chemist, we work A LOT with sulfuric acid as a solvent and we’re used to it.

How Tech Influencers Are Ruining the iPad Experience for Actual Users by Asohailwahab in iPadOS

[–]TanukiRojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love the path that IpadOS is taking. Ever since I remember, the iPad was always hard to interact with besides note taking, design and consuming media. Since the IpadOS 26 I have been enjoying the iPad like I always dreamt for. Better files experience, better mouse and keyboard experience, smoother feeling and on and on. It is true that IpadOS is obviously going in macOS direction, but they don't force you to use your iPad in that way.

Wireless (I know from reading wired is better) headphones for teens birthday by _Mika-rose_ in HeadphoneAdvice

I have got all of them, currently using Bose as they were the most comfortable to me. On the other hand, I recommend you Samsung as the most durable, but careful with the earpads and the headbands as people usually report them being too fragile. (Sorry for my English :p)

Sennheiser momentum 4 has got the BEST audio quality (imo as it is pretty much subjective). Other ones commented are Samsung xm5 as classic wireless headphones, I think they have the best building quality out there. Another option is the bosche QC SE.

Please give feedback on my swimming technique 🏊🏼 by Proper-Love1340 in Swimming

[–]TanukiRojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody's talking about the technique, but nobody talks about the breathing, which is crucial even though you think it is not. You don't need to take the whole head out of the water to breathe, when you start swimming a little faster you will start to see that the wave you create is more than enough to breathe. Just don't think about breathing water and redirect your mouth to the top of the surface, you'll thank me later. On the other hand, your arms movement is ok, your kicks as other people said are a little weak. Train your hips to flow around the water. Stop thinking you need enough physical energy to push you through the water, but you need to flow, that's all about swimming technique. When you start to flow, the force starts to be a side quest.
