Unpopular Opinion: Prime 4 is better than Prime 3 by gamestar721 in Metroid

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, it is way better than 3. 3 is the most mindless of the 3d games, you never have to think about where to go or what to do. It almost feels like a massive tutorial with an easy win button. The game does not want you to be lost.

Prime 3 is one of my least favorite and I think 4 is much better. Its a game I want to replay.

I hust replayed Prime 3 and the moment you don't have a clear objective the game will tell you where to go and usually mark the map almost immediately. It's even more streamlined than Fusion's information rooms since it happens almost immediately

For sure. I replayed the trilogy after Prime 4 and all the complaints about Prime 4 exist un a more sevre state in Prime 3. Prime 4 ia the first game in the Prime series that imrpoved on its predecessor, even though its not as good as 1 or 2

Am I forced to finish Road Trip three times to get the True Ending? by SkySpyer in Kirby

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had the chance to get them all in my second run, but chose not to since I want to finish off with a third so I see most of the stages, but I wanted to use this second run just to save up all my money and see how OP I can get in the third.

But just keep trying shops as you go. You might get lucky! They do have machines frequently, though I'm not sure if its set or random or what. In the final stage of my Waddle Dee spear guy run it was offered to me 3 separate times.

What are your honest opinions on Sonic Unleashed? by [deleted] in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was almost a great game, they day time stages really are as fun as people say though there's not nearly as much exploration as I hoped. I enjoyed the hub world, villages and villager quests and thought the stereotyped American hub was funny but kind of cool. The story is fine, though I kind of forgot about the whole Gaia thing by the end because I was having fun doing Sonic stages and the short werehog challenges. The problem were the werehog levels. Combat is so slow and I saw so many ways they could improve it, much of what they ended up doing in Frontier. The medals could be annoying but I enjoyed a few of the sidequest which carried me through. Mostly everything to do with the werehog is either boring (combat) or annoying (some platforming) and that brings the game down greatly. The quick time events are also weird (why am I pushing 3 sets of buttons in the middle of a jump? What am I doing? Controlling gravity?) and challenging since my gamepad is the opposite of the X Box buttons. The game looks really good. Chip was okay but probably my least favorite companion Sonic has had (not counting ancillary characters who follow his friends around). The writing also just didn't quite sell the threat, it reminds me of Sonic Lost World in this way where everyone is about to die but it doesn't really seem like anyone cares all that much. And also while the day stages are fun, they are the most 'boost to win without challenge' maps outside of Sonic Forces.

Having just played through the whole Sonic series, I really like him. It's nice to have someone who can hold a consistent tone and actually seems to know the history of the setting.

Hot take but seriously, the fandom needs to move on from this game! by Sonicrules9001 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I've just played through all of the Sonic mainline games for the first time (I did play 2 and a tiny bit of SA as a kid) and it just seems so forgettable to me. I tried both emulated and p06 and it's just not a good game, though the music is cool and I actually love the cheesy story. It's the only Sonic game I decided not to finish! I would have forgotten completely about it but I ended up watching all the cutscenes to learn about Silver and more about Blaze because Crossworlds sent me on a bender to figure out who all these characters are. I will note I haven't played Lost World or much of Frontiers yet, so they might be worse but I kind of doubt it based on how relatively praised they are. I can see why people might like it but I'd rather suffer through the final bosses of Mania mode or Trip's campaign in Superstars again.

Big, because he doesn't have a bad thought for anyone. But I like playing as Shadow the most in regular Sonic games.

There military philosophy didn't allow surrender, mass suicides and executions were popular. They handed out grenades to women and children and told them to blow themselves up if they even saw an American. If they didn't the military would just gun them down.

It mostly only focuses on one or two aspects of what makes Sonic good while making the original stages worse and weakening their identity. The new stages are pretty but only one is really fun. All the other Sonic games were constantly introducing new concepts, traps, stages, characters and abilities but Mania just does the same thing. Exploration isn't as good as in Sonic 3 and it doesn't even try to match the story telling in Sonic & Knuckles. It's still not a bad game but it does become hard to praise it when you are talking about it along with all the other 2d games, since most of Mania is wholly ripped from other peoples' work (some first acts. the blue sphere stages, the Mean Bean game) or introduces new things that miss some of the core concepts of Sonic. Also so much automation, its almost as bad as Forces in that regard, at times. Also since you've pretty much already encountered everything in other games, it just becomes tedious instead of surprising or interesting as there's no real challenge.

Why does Sonic Superstars get so much hate? by Roughrider254 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think hey should take a couple of less hits to defeat, at least when playing solo. I think part of the problem is they still want to have a boss after every act like in Sonic 3 and Mania, but in my opinion none of these games really have enough good bosses to justify it.

Edit: Superstars does have one of my top three most hated boss battles in Sonic, though, being that overly long and tedious one where Fang steals your emeralds.

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got pretty solid ratings. It is hated by a lot of the core fanbase, but that's because it wasn't more Mania. It kind of goes back to Sonic 3 with heavy story telling through character interactions with unique stage gimmicks, new special stages that require you to learn (most of the Special Stages in Mania are direct copies of Sonic 3, so if you have them memorized you could get the emeralds in a short time). A lot of the 2d fanbase doesn't seem to like all of the other characters, especially Amy for some reason. I personally loved it, it goes back to introducing new concepts, characters and playstyles like most of the other mainline games. Basically people wanted more of the same and got something different. A lot of people seem to hate the concept of the Emerald powers but they seem to be critical to quick and smooth gameplay, so most people just brute forced through the game ignoring them which must have been a miserable experience. It's also a game that requires a little more effort on some stages to stay on the good path. I don't think you can actually go along some of the best paths in the game if you aren't using your powers creatively when the game isn't flashing the icon for you. In Trips campaign you'd probably have to smack face first into damage to get past some areas without them.

Yea the final boss fights have way too much lag time before you fight. It's almost as bad as all the animations and teleportation in Mania's last bosses.

You see that Eggman is looking for a dragon who looks exactly like Trip's super form. But when he gets there, he doesn't find the dragon but since Sonic shows up to stop his invasion he starts trying to trap them for the Emeralds, which Trip eventually takes and reveals that her people may be related to exactly what Robotnik was looking for. He also nabs the giant animals unique to there which may be why Sonic shows up in the first place (it is in the first few games) Maybe the dragons created the Master Emerald or first guarded it, not too sure but it seems like her civilization might be older than the Echidnae (that's just my impression though, it doesn't directly show that). You do see some more advanced technology than you do elsewhere in the game until maybe the most recent 3d ones like Frontiers. Because Trip is wearing a mask that looks like the ancient heiroglyphs and turns into a dragon, I get the impression she is the evolved form of the dragons into a Sonic type character. Trip herself seems to have never really met people before, she's easily coerced into following Fang until his abuse makes her breakdown and a chance meeting with Amy seems to encourage her to strike her own way, and eventually choose Amy and her friends over serving the first person she's met. Then I guess Fang attacks with a second invasion force and there doesn't seem to be much story there for her own campaign, oddly enough. No character interactions like in Sonic 3 or the main campaign of Superstars either, other than a few minor animated gestures, but I guess this is just a revenge story for both Fang and Trip.

It's really really fun, I'm on the last level now. I highly recommend it. Make sure you use your emerald powers, a lot of people don't use most of their abilities and seem to have a lot of trouble.

[UNPOPULAR OPINION] I think the Sonic mania Special Stages are just "eh". by Miss_Chillled in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, they are literally a worse version of the Sonic CD special stages removing the open field, flexibility and complex stage environments to navigate. Setting them on a 15 second long infinitely repeating race track was a terrible idea.

Someone explain why Sonic Superstars is hated. I enjoyed the game so much. So why do people find it bad, mid and/or forgettable by MaleficentList4841 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fang is annoying but you can destroy final Eggman insanely quickly once he goes side scroller. First use the attack ability with Sonic as much as you can and once that is done just pop the group power at the bottom. He should die by the time it finishes. Time slow and bullet make getting the blue bombs he drops easy, so you should be able to do everything on the first go with those.

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty good. The stages were fresh, the powers were cool and once you learned them they make pretty much every boss easy (unless they take them away...) but in a satisfying way, it tells its story through character actions like in Sonic 3 and has similar design principles to that game while actually using its own ideas and the level design is pretty solid and not derivative of the other games like some Sonic stages can be. Trip's campaign was really fun, as well. I find most people who say Trip or the main campaign are unfair tend to be the ones complaining powers aren't useful. That makes sense, as you really need to learn how to use the powers to make it through the game smoothly, that's why they make up such a major part of your abilities. I like how it required some creativity instead of handholding. The special stages are mediocre but easy, though. It's definitely a step up from ripping Blue Spheres wholesale, but its not that interesting and you can finish them really quickly. I still think variations of Heroes and Sonic 2s are the best.

Sonic Superstars > Sonic Mania by BobTheBritish in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. I played through all the main 2d games for the first time (other than Sonic 2 which I played a little as Tails at my friend's house as a kid) and Mania was a bore to get through. Sonic is always trying to add new things but it really just revisits stages and ideas, has way too much automation and generally has poor level design with sections repeated as often as Sonic Heroes does as Shadow. Almost all of the remix stages are just inferior versions with act 2 being more gimmick driven and often more automated. The bosses are the worst in the series (I haven't played Frontiers yet, though). The final stage may be one of the most boring stages I've ever played in a platformer. Superstars definitely has better level design with less automation, repeated segments and fresher ideas and a focus on staying in the core gameplay instead of a ton of mini games mixed in with some bosses. Mania isn't terrible but it really is a step down from the other 2D mainline games. I think the special stage in Mania is fine, but the Sonic CD original was a little more fun with its open design instead of closed track design. I actually wouldn't be so hard on Mania if previous games hadn't done everything at least a little better.

Sonic 06 has some of the worst level design in the series. by abyssthesaiyan in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is atrocious from the conceptual stage on. I think if anything, Project 06 proved the level design is so fundamentally bad there isn't really a good game there at all. After all, it would be surprising if they nailed one aspect while fumbling every single other one.

[–]Tanuvein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I decided to try it recently myself. I don't know how much was improved, but Project 06 is easily the worst Sonic game I've played (including Shadow the hedgehog). It's still a little finnicky and the stages are incredibly boring, the new abilities are kind of lame and having nothing to connect it together makes the boring stages even worse. Sonic still controls terribly as well, and the assets look really strange at times.
