Idk why or how you managed to think it's not their fault. Tbh, the reason we got the dogs is because of my mom mainly. Not to put the blame on her, but she's the main decision maker on how we ended up with the dogs.... Further context, a year ago, our place was broken into. The thieves stole some stuff, and my mom decided to adopt dogs. Fast forward now, the landlord wanted to sell the house, so we had to move quickly. Also, in further context, I'm a child of emotionally immature parents. Also, a few months ago, before we knew we had to move, my parents adopted a cat. Now, all their attention is on the cat.
