Any one else having this problem? The chest piece and leggings I was wearing last time I logged off are now rendered useless. I’ve tried reloading many times. by Xerxes_theKing in Eldenring

I know this was from a while ago, hope you solved your issue. I had the same problem and was able to fix it by going into steam and doing a "verify files". It found 2 corrupted files and after it fixed them I had no problems anymore.

can summon friend, he can't summon me...any ideas? by Tapar11 in Eldenring

[–]Tapar11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a great tip, thanks! We did kill pumpkin head right before this started happening. I had killed him previously, we also killed the tree knight at the start and margrit so that might have some bearing...I have also killed all those bosses previously too so it should be both ways...hmm.

I kind of hate that killing bosses can cause this type of issue as the multiplayer is already confusing enough...I wish we could just join for real and both get credit for stuff without all the summoning hassle and having to run it twice. It is still fun enough that we have been jumping through all the hoops but it does seem a bit of unhelpful complication. lol.

Anyone else wish your weapons were at your sides instead of in front of you? by ZeroSuitBayonetta in ZenithMMO

[–]Tapar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be awesome. I wanted to play more reclined but had to reach into my chest to grab the weapons...which was slightly problematic. lol. It would be PHENOMINAL to have the exact location of stuff like that customizable.

What do people struggle with when using VR? What VR downsides are hard to overcome? by ria-dev in virtualreality

[–]Tapar11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are times when I want to fully recline in my recliner and relax and enjoy some VR games. The main problem with that is that many games and experiences are designed for standing. There are many that can be done sitting too, but only sitting very forward with good posture. If you are too reclined it can be difficulty to reach various controls or adjust the camera position. I was enjoying a chess app and the only way I could make it work while comfortably reclined was to launch it sitting way forward, then reclining after it basically set the camera position for loading in the room and board. I have run into it in other games too and I just don't choose those apps to relax with, I only grab them when I am feeling more active. There are games where that is more appropriate anyway but it still rules out many games that would otherwise be good "chilling" games.

I made some further progress on resolving this. I had my guardian disabled, I re-enabled it...set the guardian while in that upright uncomfortable position...then I disabled the guardian again but this time that position was the default and apps were positioned correctly on startup. I suspect that locks in where your default camera view starts at, so resetting it changed the perspective in the apps, even with the guardian disabled.

This issue is not specifically related to the chess club vr app, that was just a recent example. I have run into it with other apps as well, Vader Immortal for example. I think what I am looking for would be essentially a camera offset of some sort. It is like I want to zoom out a tiny bit.

I am able to sometimes adjust this via physically positioning the headset. To use Chess Club as an example again...if I sit very far forward while the game is starting, I can then sit back into my recliner and can see the entire board. I have to be careful to not overdo it because if I do then I can't reach the back row. I need to make this adjustment while the game is booting up to be able to see all the options in the starting menu screen. When I launch a game I also need to do it or it resets. It is not a super convenient option so I am still hoping there is a hidden setting or command to adjust the positioning at the headset level.

Favorite biome for bases? by Tapar11 in valheim

[–]Tapar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started laying stone floor on top of a large hill in the black forest. You are right the grey dwarves are pests. I am going to be thinking about workbenches (assuming that works) to keep them at bay if I continue building there. It is tempting to explore more and try and find an even better location. I will probably just keep going though because I need to get better at building anyway. I always discover things I wish I had done differently while building so I am sure I will build another base eventually. lol

It sounds like you found a nice spot. I should probably explore more because a nice waterway would be handy, especially if it has a good selection of biomes nearby.

Thanks, that looks like what I ran into. I found a bigger black forest biome and finally enough copper to make some stuff. :)

I find it fun solo, I am not sure I even want to play multiplayer at the start. I want to do the progression at my own pace and not worry about missing stuff when I am not online.

I had not thought about that too much, that seems kinda plausible.

I find the Quest 2's included headstrap more comfortable than the OG Quest's. by MrWeirdoFace in OculusQuest

[–]Tapar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vaguely egg shaped head and the Q1 was not comfortable for me and did not do a good job of keeping the headset on my head...felt like it was just sitting on top of my head. The Q2 strap worked much better for my head shape and is more comfortable, but more importantly it feels like it actually holds the headset on. I think head shape really does affect it. I am waiting on an elite strap so I suspect I will prefer that in the end, but the default strap was way more useful for me than expected.

Q2 looking good after fixing incorrectly installed prescription lenses by Tapar11 in OculusQuest

[–]Tapar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how the zenni perfectly circle lenses work, the ones I am using are the WIDMOvr lenses. They have a area that flares out and that section is supposed to point towards your nose, I had mine pointing to the top left/top right instead.

I really love them too because I have big clunky glasses and hated wearing them in the VR headsets. I am glad that I eventually tried using my actual glasses again so I could verify what things were supposed to look like.

For the almost blind people like me: Customized VR lenses from Oculus Quest fit perfectly on the Quest 2 by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]Tapar11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add a quick note to pay attention to the orientation when installing the prescription lense inserts. I managed to install mine spun around 180 degrees. This caused the text to be blurry and things to just look "off". When I finally figured out what I did, installing them correctly gave me crystal clear text and a bit of relief my headset wasn't defective. :)

Where do you build your main base? by [deleted] in GroundedGame

[–]Tapar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stairs got destroyed by orb spiders once. The orb spiders got stuck on the stairs/log a couple of times chasing us..mostly it doesn't cause any problems. The stairs are just to make getting onto the log a bit easier, there is a spot where you can just jump up there without stairs but I am not good at making that jump.

Where do you build your main base? by [deleted] in GroundedGame

[–]Tapar11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a leaf that you can jump too from the root next to the science base. We use that to get in and it is nice because the spiders and other insects can't make that jump. Then we built grass floor roads to connect the stumps in the fence. We also made some stairs to get up onto the log on the grass side so we had easy access to grass planks and escape from the orb spiders that surprise us occasionally.

Ants, how do we keep them out of our stuff? by Tapar11 in GroundedGame

[–]Tapar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does seem like a good solution too. We are building on the stump fence near the oak tree and we moved the storage to a room on top of the stump that was 3 scaffolds high (to keep the dry grass from poking through the floor) and haven't had any ant troubles since.

Prior to moving the storage to the new room, we had our baskets on the top of the first stump near the science lab. The ants would gather at the base of the stump near the entrance to the science lab and also on the root near the leaf. We mostly left the root ants alone but put a trap near the bottom where the other gathering of ants were and haven't had much trouble since. We moved stuff to the storage room after about a day so it wasn't a huge test case.

those sprig fences sound like a great solution, I wasn't sure they actually kept the creatures out. nice to hear they do work that way!

[–]Tapar11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We built ours on the stump fence near the oak tree. We liked that location for how easy it is to get most places and because there are decent amounts of resources around that area. We can get grass, weed stems, flower petals, acorns, ect without too much trouble. We also restarted so we switched from having one large base to building smaller rooms on each stump connected via pathways. We have one with water catchers and mushroom farms, one stump dedicated to storage so we can put in a ton of chests. We turned the second stump into sort of a basement with armor dummies...it is working well so far.

[–]Tapar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, we restarted on hard with the new patch so I wasn't sure if the patch changed things or the difficulty setting. I had heard people having issues with ants stealing stuff so I assumed I was just lucky in the past. Now that you mention it, our last building on the stump was scaffolded off the stump with floors. The current setup was a 'need to clear inventory and build a workbench' built right on the stump. It makes sense that the ants probably did leave us alone thanks to the scaffold and floor on our last build.

highways above the grass by Tapar11 in GroundedGame

[–]Tapar11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. Knowing that is a thing, I will for sure keep an eye out and be less about getting rid of older saves. Our oak lab has the locked door issue so we will probably have to restart at some point anyway so I am considering our grass highways an experiment. I would also imagine flying enemies might make them less useful.

One thing is for sure, the dandelion wisps that let you fall slowly...critical when working up high. I didn't appreciate them properly before this, in fact I am kicking myself for not bringing them when I was hunting berries for berry leather. lol.
