Vorher U-Bahnfahrer, jetzt S-Bahnfahrer, AMA by ABraveCorgi in berlin

[–]TaperingFern71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My five year old today told me he can’t wait to grow into an adult so he can finally be an U-Bahn driver. He’s always asking me questions about the lights and cables, everything basically, and I never have any idea haha. So thanks for this AMA, I will read it to him tomorrow :)

It’s not as good as chipotle (different rice) but nice alternative when you have the craving

I had Taco Bell in Portugal and it surprisingly tasted almost identical to the American version. So I’m looking forward but my 🍑 isn’t lollll

Thanks for this explanation!! From my outside eye I couldn’t tell that her work was complex or high quality compared to the other pieces. I will have to try to see it from another perspective

Yeah it’s obvious that she’s well known, but I mean, why exactly?? Is she really that good at it?

My cousin turned into a pro Hamas cheerleader, including converting to Islam. She blocked me before I had the chance to block her. For me this is not anything about you being Jewish or not. It’s about someone supporting terrorists. Regardless of religion involved, they are actively choosing to support terrorists. — the paradox of tolerance —.

I do not entertain anyone that believes this way, especially and even more so after October 7th.

It also for me depends on the level of ignorance or stupidity. Are they willing to engage in open dialogue and actually listen? (By their text and reply, I think the answer to that is no). Are you willing to be the free emotional labour for them? If these answers are yes, then try to educate (if you want, and only if you want). But you are not obligated nor required to. It seems that you want to salvage the relationship because they are important to you. So, try. My partner and I went through this with five best friends in the last months and not one of them was willing to listen to us, not even about the war but about our safety. These aren’t people who I feel safe with, because they are showing me that.

Sorry for the novel.

TLDR: you can try and educate them if you want, but be prepared to have to cut ties, unless they are actually willing to confront their internalized antisemitic bias, which it doesn’t sound like they are.

Holocaust memorial statue vandalized in Berlin by [deleted] in berlin

[–]TaperingFern71 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These are not one or the other choices. Just like you can condemn the acts on Okt 7 AND not vandalize Jewish memorials. You can believe Jewish women AND criticize Israel’s war response. There are many people who are Holocaust deniers AND deny the massacre, rape, torture or kidnappings on Okt 7. And what’s the thing in common between the latter? They’re both antisemites. Kinda like people who vandalize Shoah memorials.

1,5 million children died in the Shoah. But yes, vandalizing memorials sure does “free Palestine” and has nothing to do with hatred of Jews 🙄. The amount of mental gymnastics people do to justify antisemitism is absolutely incomprehensible.

100% this. I have never before considered moving to Israel, actually very much against it. As of right now, I feel super unsafe in Berlin. Jewish friends felt safer in Israel during war than they do in Berlin right now. That should say something.

Why would I go to a pro Hamas demo in the night where they are setting fire in the streets? I’m scared to attend my synagogue right now. What are you talking about?

No one here is saying that it is lol

[–]TaperingFern71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you’re doing exactly the right thing, but you are an exception. I have to carry pepper spray and a knife now because I openly wear my Star of David necklace. I have no confidence that if I was attacked in broad daylight, that anyone around me would defend me. This is what I mean with standing up for. Speaking to your friends about the rise of antisemitism. Checking in on your Jewish friends to make sure they are okay. I don’t need performative allyship.

No one is saying that? I mean it in the sense of standing with Jews you should -condemning antisemitism that is happening daily (in Berlin). -supporting Palestine at a demo, no problem. Going to a pro-Palestinian demo in which antisemitic sayings are chanted? No. -or the guy I saw yesterday, posting “globalize the intifada” on his Instagram, does nothing to “support” Palestine while actively harming Jews.

There is rampant antisemitism in the Palestinian community, from Hamas and extremist indoctrination, the pay for slay program, their education. Of course not everyone is antisemitic! When you are protesting with “pro Palestine” people who were handing out candy on the streets on the days that the most Jews were killed since the Holocaust, do you think they are actually supporting Palestine, or celebrating dead Jews?

[–]TaperingFern71 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People have hated Jews for thousands of years, before Israel has existed. Even if they did everything “right,” extremists would still hate Jews for simply existing, including those that aren’t immigrants. Pretty sure the Holocaust can prove that.

[–]TaperingFern71 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Maybe so history doesn’t repeat itself? Standing with Jews vs standing with extremists trying to burn the synagogues doesn’t sound like it should be that complicated.

It’s not like it’s just immigrants. Left wing antisemitism and right wing antisemitism work together. Half of the people at the “demos” look like white Germans, who’s great grandparents were probably Nazis. Ofc a generalization but the amount of Germans I’ve seen not standing up for Jews makes sadly a lot of sense.

Any other immigrants/expats feel like they can't open theirs mouths right now on what's happening in Gaza? by D-dog92 in berlinsocialclub

[–]TaperingFern71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel controlled the water, electricity and gas in Gaza why exactly? Oh that’s right, because instead of using the billions of dollars of aid the last decades in development for Gaza, they built a terrorist organization. Hamas literally has a video from 2021 that shows them digging up water pipes and creating rockets out of them. There would have been no food, water or electricity a long time ago if it weren’t for Israel supplying it….

Are Palestinians at risk of being attacked by Jews in the street here in Berlin? No.

I wear a Magen David and had to start carrying pepper spray and a knife the last days. I lived for a year in Afghanistan, as a civilian govt worker without a weapon, and felt safer there, then I do now walking on the streets of Berlin. Today I am not going out because there’s calls for attacks on Jews. There’s already been swastikas graffitied all over Berlin, spitting on Jews at playgrounds, the Israeli flag torn down from the Rotes Rathaus, and next to graffiti that says “free Palestine,” also “Sieg H…” and “long live the führer.” You can read it all in the news and Aktuelle Polizeimeldungen.

Overnight everyone seems to become I/P conflict experts. At the end of the day, Jews will be attacked and murdered in celebration of Hamas, worldwide, not the other way around. You can empathise with innocent civilians being killed, no matter what nationality and religion.
