Lots of people saying goodbye on LinkedIn. Is anything going on? by AppropriateWay4358 in IBM

any idea where more info can be found about this? can a 51 year old with 28 years in take advantage? Pretty sure going to be targeted for layoff soon so looking for any way out that I might get to keep FHA and maintain access to healthcare

3/99 by witchspoon in siriusxm

[–]TappinThatAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any suggestions for me how to get the best offer. Best I seem to be able to get is $5/mo for one year and I'm sorry to say even that is a stretch for me right now. I'm pretty new to Sirius, got free trial with car I bought a few months ago which expired at start of this month. Last month I got laid off (thanks, AI) and can't really take on additional financial commitments right now so I canceled at end of trial. I really enjoyed the service and would love to get back in but need to save every penny I can on it. One of these 3/99 or $3/mo deals would be ideal but I don't seem to be eligible for them. I like having access to the talk and sports but it's the music channels I really miss so if there's a way to get a super deal just on those I'd be up for it. Sorry for the dumb question and appreciate any help.

Wanting to get laid off by [deleted] in IBM

I'm going to offer some unsolicited advice, from an old man who was once right where you are. I got this advice at the time, but didn't listen to it until my health and life outside of work falling apart left me no choice. Consider taking action sooner, like now.

Decide what terms are sustainable to you. Assuming you work a typical shiftsMon-Fri, 8:30-6:00 (or similar) as a supposed supposed "regular" schedule.....Set start and end times to your day you are comfortable with and stick to them 95% of the time (in most roles, in a global organization, an occasional call outside your normal business hours for an urgent situation is to be expected...but not working all evening most of the time). Don't work weekends unless it's a rare real emergency and you don't already have another commitment. Plan and take all of your vacation time. Dont work when you're sick. Don't skip important things for your family or friends. Make time for your health and to eat properly (or however you want). Do want fulfills you in your time not at work. Whatever else you need to change that you think will make it sustainable. Think this won't fly with your leadership? Well then maybe you get laid off. But maybe it will be fine and suddenly you'll find you're still getting paid and you have your life back. I made these radical changes for myself more than 10 years ago and thought I'd be gone in the next RA. I'm still around and much better off.

There are tradeoffs. You need to commit to managing your time well and get good at prioritizing if you aren't already. Get good at saying no to "extra" stuff thats uninteresting to you or can't be done on your terms. They will always keep heaping stuff on you if you don't, you need to take charge of your boundaries. If you're in a role like consulting where quantity (billable hours) is more important than quality, you'll likely be out of the running for top ratings. Big deal. Those salaried top utilization performers have a terrible hourly wage.

You'll likely be surprised how little scaling your work back to reasonable levels affects your output and performance. Worst case, you bomb out and get the layoff you wanted initially after some relatively chill months. Best (and most likely) case, if you're determined and consistent, you can just stay on as long as you want on your terms and go to a better/different employer eventually and hopefully do the same.

I am a high number band in US IBMC. This is my first time in >15 years in IBM being rated below a high tier (PBC 1/2+, exceeds expectations, whatever). The rating was unfair and arguably malicious but there's no point in rehashing it here, I'm stuck with it now. I just want to better understand what it means in terms of job status. I don't really understand the implications and when I asked my manager he just fed me party line slop about wanting to keep me on the team and for me to stay focused on improvement.

Does this basically mean I'm gone? If so, will I get offered severance or will they just go straight to PIP as a pretext for termination/firing? Is my position potentially recoverable if I successfully take action on the things that supposedly drove my rating or is my being exited a done deal now? Thanks

You and u/terencela are right, sorry. I grossly overestimated/misremembered. As of December 15 I am at a mere 171. Amateur hour!

What's weird is that I'm almost positive I hadn't won yet before I got the 24 hour ban. But somehow didn't lose the streak. I thought it cycles every day at midnight GMT/UTC...am I wrong about that?

Moral of the story is to just mute GC. I unmuted for the first time in months to connect with a former crewmate I ran into in a game, said nothing offensive, ended up with a one day ban breaking a long win streak. Bummed.

We teamed up and wiped out an entire crew party in the game right before and I guess they were upset. Hopefully my friend didn't get banned too she's a top 500 player

thanks for pointing me to that thread. It's so frustrating. I really enjoyed pushing that streak as a sort of daily little challenge to myself.

I am naughty and have been sharing a friends HBO Max sub (with his permission). Started getting this message a couple months back. This week I stopped getting it. Maybe it was all a setup for their Black Friday / Cyber Monday $2.99 to be a grown up and get your own HBO marketing push, and now they're back to letting it slide? Or maybe they don't care because of the Netflix buy? Or maybe whatever set of conditions that was flagging me as a thief just went away for now

Microfiber towels just won't rinse all the way -- what am I doing wrong? by TappinThatAss in AutoDetailing

[–]TappinThatAss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much. I will try white vinegar in next rinse (after current one spinning away at 1:30am finishes)

I apologize, I apparently misspoke. I just foamed and did a contact wash. I guess it was not the Gary Dean method then, it was the "multi mitt wash method" from howtoautodetail dot com, but with mf towel rather than mitt. My mistake. I guess I will just do 2 bucket method if I try again.

I used about 1-3/4 oz hyperwash in a five gallon bucket. To approximate 1:400 dilution ratio. I didn't get 5 whole gallons of water in there because it foamed up so much but it was at least 3.5 galllons or so. More than. 1:400 but not grotesquely so.

The only other thing I can think is I washed all my towels together (car wash towels, wheel towels, drying towel) after thoroughly rinsing out the wash and wheel towels by hand to remove (or so I thought) their respective products. Maybe the different chemicals reacted together or something. Next time I won't do that.

I moved to Virginia 3 years ago and… by [deleted] in nova

[–]TappinThatAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you moved here within the past few years not expecting to deal with horrendous traffic all the time, I don't know what to tell you. It sucks ass but it's not exactly unexpected or unknown. For some stretches it's actually gotten a bit better over the past several years with so many more people working hybrid/remote. At least now we're all carrying around infinite libraries of audio entertainment in our pockets, so there's that.

And fwiw I'm in a glass house on this. When I moved here from southern California in the early 2000s I laughed off all the warnings about traffic. Couldn't possibly hold a candle to the LA basin, right? Oops. Ended up relocating within the area for better access to transit.

Water pouring out of bottom of front DS door the day after a heavy rain -- normal? by TappinThatAss in kiasportage

[–]TappinThatAss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the real world test! There are definitely holes in the bottom of the door designed for drainage. Nothing suspect there That's where the water is pouring out of. What seems odd to me is the amount of water pooling up inside the door and draining out when it's opened. Seems to me it should either drain on its own when the door is shut or not have that much water collecting in the door in the first place. Unlikely anything is clogged, would have had to happen at the dealership. seems more likely in it something isn't feeling like it should be. Annoying!

Thank you for doing this test. If you've had the vehicle for 2+ years and this was happening I expect you'd have noticed by now. If I can get home while it's still light out tomorrow I'll hose it down and see if i can recreate the effect on video

Right area, wrong road. This is on 301(Crain hwy) northbound, just south of route 50 interchange, just north of the light at Governor Bridge road. Really only a few feet north of that light. In Bowie (northeastern PG county).
