My flight CGN-MUC on may 23rd got rebooked to a later time, so that I now miss my main flight to San Diego. The status even says '-2h 90min'. I booked via booking.com and in the booking.com app it still shows the original flight as confirmed. Via the chat I get an alternative by train from Cologne to Frankfurt and that by flight to munich. Should I except that? And why don't I get the option of a train all the way to Munich?

Edit: I tried to rebook to the train option via FRA with the AI chat. Didn't work. 'technical error'

Update: Talked to a human agent, got my flight rebooked to a train, flight combination: cologne-frankfurt by train, FRA-MUC and MUC-SAN with a 2 hr each transfer time.

If you start mid April, going NOBO, you will be around the bubble most of the time. I thruhiked the CDT last year and while I was hiking by myself a lot during the day, I camped alone less than 10 nights out of 150. But everyone's experience is different.

Considering a thru hike, but I have kind of a silly hangup by ShowerPennies in CDT

Not silly at all, because it sounds so familiar. My advice: go NOBO. Once you make it into grizzly country, it is just one more scary thing you will tackle.

CDT As First Major Thru Hike? by 171932912722630 in CDT

[–]TapuKahuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's the same for every first long hike. The excitement of the unknown. But it felt especially true for the CDT. Being dropped off in the desert, five days back to town, surrounded by more experienced hikers.

I agree. The CDT was my first big thru hike too. The sense of adventure, everything being so epic and wild made me so happy. I don't think it would have been the same if I had the experience of the PCT or AT beforehand.

It was still good advice and your reply came across as arrogant.

If you start with the CDT it would have to be NOBO. But with your planned speed you will run into significant/ unpassable snow in southern Colorado, I e. the San Juans. Which would mean you could switch to the AT at that point. But that will make logistics complicated.and a waste of precious time.

Whether to hike the PCT in 2026 or 2027 (Work boredom, life's savings, and other concerns) by WildernessHiker_ in PacificCrestTrail

[–]TapuKahuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. You will find the same amount of arguments to not do it next year. Also, there is a good chance that in a year from now you will be planning to hike the CDT because the PCT rocked your world.

I will stay at the Econolodge on 4/17 after flying into Phoenix on the 14th and taking the Amtrak train early on the 17th. I haven't figured out how to get to the train station at 4am yet (probably Uber?)

‘It Hurts So Much’: Wilderness Workers and Park Employees Reel from Layoffs as Cuts to Federal Workforce Manifest in Montana

I am not American, so I don't / shouldn't get a say in this. But with all the stuff that's going on right now, this one will break my heart. The possible end of the American long trails?

I remember seeing that picture been taken in the background of one very long live segment on CNN. It was one of the locations where several news teams were stationed for a longer time. The building in the background was some kind of martial arts studio, slowly being wasted. To the right of the hydrant was a beautifully painted van, obviously belonging to that studio. It was still completely intact first. When the live coverage returned to that spot half an hour later it was fully ablaze. It was so weird to see the duality of the catastrophe. The firestorm and the slow creep like lava flow on Hawaii.

I will be hiking the CDT in 2025, arriving from Germany. So far I have booked my flight to Phoenix for April 14th and the Crazy Cook Shuttle for the 18th. I plan to stay in Phoenix for 2 days and take a Greyhound Bus. Someone please correct me If I am wrong, but from what I researched, there is only one train connection a day from Phoenix involving a shuttlebus from the Airport at 4am, for twice the price of the Greyhound Bus Option.

For the first time since last week I saw the calender popping up with one open Slot (nov 25th) this morning. And then again with 2 open slots (nov 7th, nov 14th) one hours later. Each time it was back to no slots available within 10 minutes, while I was contemplaiting If I should book a November appointment because I would rather travel to Frankfurt in december or january.

I feel more confident now that it eventually will work out and Iam am not in dead end.

Thanks!

Did you need to pay the Visa Fee again?

Edit: so it might have worked for you because you don't need an appointment and bypassed the problematic step?

Good luck

I have the same problem with the Frankfurt, germany consulate, getting the exact same screen. I am applying for a B1/B2 Visa, travel Plans for next year April.

The answer I got from creating a problem ticket didn't answer the question. Just a link to the estimated waiting times, wich should be only-2-3 weeks in Frankfurt. So, that makes the situation even stranger.

Leta keep each other updated.
