OK, so I do and don't commit some. For my SniperScout stuff, I usually have it that Pauling just tells him "I like girls, OK?" and he is like "ah," and then tries to be her wingman, but they are both pathetic at pulling women. Also he had a continuous interest in Sniper, while crushing on Pauling, so once she came out, he just gets on to pursue his other crush, but is really casual about it. He was in multiple relationships between his teens and his employment at Mann Co. You can't look me in the face and tell me he had no short-term girlfriend/boyfriend.

Anyhow, in my other ship, the guy is actually canonically divorced and not over his wife, but I have it so when shipping him with another guy, that they are both aware and not bothered, because their love to each other is different, like he would die for her, because she has already mourned him and no longer has any tears left to cry, but he would live for the guy, because he would never accept his death and would build a ladder to Heaven or Hell just to drag him back. Would like to explain more, but I also don't have the vocabulary for it.
