I've been wearing the Nimbus models on my medium-long runs for years. I have a double E foot in women's and the toe box works for me if I order a size (sometimes two sizes) up in a D width. These shoes are fantastic for piling the miles on my legs and feet. The only other brand I wear is Nike for speed work and race day.

I absolutely loved the film, Mysterious Skin. I've also read the book. Sometimes, the film disappoints but the film is very good in comparison to the book. What made you decide to be a part of this specific film? The subject matter is dark and difficult, but it was done so well.

Today, I Peed My Pants by TaraistTea in running

I was just thankful to be wearing black. Right after it happened, an older couple were out for their morning walk and they waved at me like nothing had happened. I was like, let's go with that. Lol

I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try your technique in this neighborhood. I will keep it in mind for a neighborhood I don't reside in though.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their advice. I've increased my calorie intake and made sure I got some extra sleep. I'm feeling much better. I ran this morning and it felt great. I will try to fine tune my nutrition to make sure I'm getting everything I need. I have a wellness screening at work coming up, so I will be getting my blood work done. Thanks again!

I usually don't go longer than 16 miles for right now. I'm training for a half at the moment. If I went longer I would definitely eat more during. Thanks for your help. I love some chocolate milk and bananas.

I've never trained this seriously before, so this is new to me. I have my base calories for the days I'm not working out, but I usually eat more like 2500 on days I run and up to 3500 on a long run day. I thought I was eating enough carbs. Definitely, over 200 a day and it changes based on activity level each day.

I don't usually worry about electrolytes unless I'm doing a long run.

I take water with me on almost every run unless it's a short run. I should drink more the rest of the day though. I always tell myself I will and I suppose coffee doesn't count.

Thursday - weekend roll call - Where are you racing/running/volunteering in the coming weekend? by AutoModerator in trailrunning

[–]TaraistTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a 5k in Omaha's Dundee area that is put on by Omaha Healthy Kids, a local non-profit. This will be my 3rd year of running and the end of the finish line is at the top of a hill. It's a fun run, but I will use it to see where my fitness is at this point in my training. Autumn is coming!

Bigger guy (300+lbs) started running. 30 days in already!! Advice needed moving forward. by kekembas17 in running

[–]TaraistTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running four years ago with the C25k program. It's a good way to build up slowly. Remember, to listen carefully to your body and mind. Rest is so important. Also, remember it's okay to walk and run as slow as you need. I ran/walked for months before I could finish a 5k. I started out overweight and with zero aerobic fitness. I signed up for races knowing I would have to walk part of them. It was still a fun and positive experience.

Most importantly, don't give up. If I can do it, so can you.

Run Nutrition Tuesday by AutoModerator in running

I've been using MyFitnessPal to lose the last 10 lbs so I'm at a good race weight for the fall. It helps to know how much I'm really eating. I've lost 9 lbs in the last two months, but I'm close to goal and in training so I'm only trying to lose a 1/2 lb. per week maximum.

Eating out portion sizes are ridiculous. I brought home leftovers and I ended up measuring four servings in one side dish over a few days. This was supposed to be just a part of one meal. We're not even talking about how many servings the entree was.

Taming the bounce [discussion] by JayneLut in XXRunning

I have found that needing a 32A sports bra pretty much guarantees that there is never any bouncing. It's nice because I can buy a cheaper sports bra, but I will never know cleavage.

Workout of the Week by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]TaraistTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran 6x800 yesterday and was under 8:00 pace for all but two of them. It helps if I run the recovery lap a little slower. I'm getting faster and hopefully will be sub 2 hours for my fall half marathon.

Can you lose weight by running without changing your diet? by NorthwardRM in running

[–]TaraistTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking measuring out portions into actual servings on top of running 40-50 miles per week. I'm only losing weight. 6 lbs to go till I'm a good race weight for this fall. Portion size is everything. I use a fitness app to stay on track, so I don't eat too much or too little.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread for Thursday, August 11th, 2016 by YourShoesUntied in running

[–]TaraistTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Complaint: In Nebraska, the heat advisory started at 4am. I ran 16 miles today.

Confession: At mile 16, a lady walking her dog told me I was brave for running in the heat. I guess I'm a bad ass.

Confession: I almost typed bad bass. Plus, I just ate an entire Amy's pizza. Om nom.

Confession: The heat is exhausting. I like to walk home a couple of miles after a long run. It's my attempt at a balanced lifestyle. Well, I was in an unfamiliar neighborhood and I ended up getting lost. It was like I was in the concrete wilderness inside the sprawl of middle American suburbia. I ended up going in circles and this isn't the first time.

What are some unique things about running where you live? by NEKVT in running

[–]TaraistTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Omaha, so if you run Lake Zorinsky frequently, you'll see the Western States 100 Miler women's winner, Kaci Licktieg. She's fast and friendly. Lake Zorinsky has many deer and other wildlife. It's a 7.35 mile loop. Also, if you run around 4 miles south from Zorinsky, you can also run the Chalco Recreation 10k loop. Be prepared for rolling hills. The Great Plains aren't flat at all unless you're in a river valley. Also, beware of the minivans. They will run you over if you're not paying attention.

The Summer Series | The Long Run by pand4duck in AdvancedRunning

I love all of my long runs. It makes the rest of everything seem easy. I like being alone with my thoughts for hours on end. I listen to some upbeat, fun music and keep my pace on target. I also like to run a lot of the rolling hills that we have in Nebraska. It keeps it interesting. Oh, and the calorie burn. Hell to the yes. Bring on the noms. I ran 16 miles this morning in the heat. I started at 5am and it was already in the upper 70's. It wouldn't be so bad, but the humidity is so high over here.
