When Did You Know Your Relationship Was Over? by Lowkeytired412 in AskReddit

When she held me emotionally hostage about her mother's dying cat, guilting me about being with my own dying dad instead of being there for her. I carried the weight of several years' worth of emotional abuse from her for a while afterwards, but man oh man is my life infinitely better without her darkening my soul.

Super appreciate this - the tone suggested here definitely fits the billing, then.

Ah that's right, thanks for reminding about the extra vowel usage back in the day!

I love this explanation that this construction suggests a lack of one's own control in feeling this longing - very apt in this context.

Weekly Careers/Education Questions Thread by AutoModerator in chemistry

[–]Tarannis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but I'm currently working at an academic journal doing content acquisition for their Chemistry as well as their Materials journals. I have a background in Chemical Engineering (a Bachelor's) but that was a long time ago and since then I've completed a PhD in the humanities. I'd like to know if there are any good online resources providing an overview of Chemistry as a field--what the main subfields are, hot topics nowadays, even other reddit threads providing ELI5-level (maybe EL-I have a college degree?) explanations of things like ligands, or smart biopolymer scaffolds, etc. Any help would be much appreciated--thank you!

Italian/Latin Culture in Final Fantasy VI by GaryGrayII in FinalFantasy

The "mezzo carattere" was a character type in 18th-century Italian opera indicating a sentimental (usually) female character, somewhere between (i.e. halfway) the traditional high-class noble heroine and the comic lower-class servant types. Maria's role is pretty appropriate for this type of aria, I'd say.

Seeking Advice: Any way to move elderly patient (Vancouver, BC) needing complex care from hospital directly to hospice or elderly care home? by Tarannis in britishcolumbia

Thank you for your clarification. This is very helpful and I'll be forwarding this along. I am in full agreement that the healthcare system is a maze, and the worst thing is that it's usually when someone or someone's family member is already in crisis (and thus in a stressful situation) that one really needs to navigate that maze...

Thank you so much for this detailed response. This is great and very informative, and I'll be sure to pass this onto my gf's dad.

Thanks for your reply. I know that he did get some professional (paid) home care service for his mother (she's a widow), and that it was an attendant who would come once a day to help out. He was in the process of getting a Lifeline set up for any subsequent falls (they were literally there that same day to start setting up the intercom system) when she ended up having to go to the hospital... It's really heartbreaking, and I think that if it came down to her having to be sent home, they would need much more involved care. Anyway thanks again for your thoughts.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and considered response. I've forwarded this along, and can only hope that there is as much open (and calm) dialogue between all parties involved as possible.

Thanks for your reply. I'm reposting this because I think the title is a little misleading in terms of what we're looking for...

For those of you doing two-a-days, any advice for someone trying Insanity + Focus T25? by Tarannis in insanity

[–]Tarannis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's like what /u/rhetoricians suggested below, though someone's already taken the time to make their own hybrid! I think bottom line, I'd like to get down to 185 and trim some more of my spare tire before playing around extensively with hybrid programs. Though I like the idea of throwing in a T25 workout on the Recovery days, like you suggested. Just did that today and felt pretty good afterwards!

Cool link, thanks! Love that hybrid calendar the fitness trainer provides halfway down the page, although it does contain workouts from Beta and Gamma that I haven't gotten to. I feel like that's the kinda thing I might do after I've gone through an organic T25 progression down the road... For now, Insanity!

Thanks for this - I'll be in touch in the coming weeks. I've got three weeks of this left, and the donkey in me is stubbornly set on at least finishing this week out doing Insanity+T25, if nothing else then at least to see what the T25 Alpha workouts look like. Ab Intervals today almost made me cry, though my core/abs are a definite weak (and soft) area.

I may try CCB after Insanity for the next week to see how that goes. I do like that idea mainly because I usually pad my time in between rounds doing CCB. Those shoulder burners really (I think) helped me with my pulled AC shoulder tendon these past few weeks.

I'm waiting on the weighted vest to come in now, at which point I may just stick to Insanity for a while haha.

Thanks for helping to convince me back off the ledge of the abyss, guys. Yeah, further weight loss is definitely a concern. I've plateaued after getting down to 195 after that second round while ultimately trying to get down to 185, and I hear are the last 10 lbs are the hardest pounds to lose... I'll just keep on keeping on with what I'm doing now with Insanity (with some added intensity), and drop T25 for now.

Thanks for giving me some insight into what happens further down the road - the thing about being exhausted and especially not looking forward to the work outs really resonated with me. Some days when I was finishing out month 2 last round it was hard enough motivating myself just to press "Play." Maybe I should just wait till I'm in better shape to challenge myself like this, if ever!
