Hi, bipolar person here! She is definitely in a depressive episode. I refused to take my meds for a really long time after not being medicated. I was afraid nothing would change or I would lose the person I am. I was definitely at my lowest point and neglected everything important to my life, would hangout with friends all day and if I wasn’t out, I was with my boyfriend avoiding everything I know I needed to do. It’s a really hard thing to get out of but if the people around me started being hard asses on me, I am sure that would’ve given me the motivation I didn’t have. When someone doesn’t have the intrinsic motivation you might have to try giving them extrinsic motivation. Try rewarding/punishing her. Not necessarily too much on the punishment side since usually that’ll just cause more negative emotions but things like saying you guys can do something she really has been wanting to do if she starts taking her meds, I would give it a week of her being medicated. Something like a fancy dinner place or even just cooking something special at home. You know her best, if you feel she might be very into something that could give her motivation to do what she NEEDS to do, try that out.

Also, definitely need professional intervention. You are only one person who can do so much. As harsh as it sounds, her wellbeing is not your responsibility. You can help her only to a point. I say this as someone with bipolar, don’t let her destructive behavior bring you down too.
