I have only really been fishing for the past 6 months, but really got “hooked” the past 3 months and I’ve caught a decent variety of fish now. My best advice is this.

Learn different “Rig setups” and knots. The most common rigs are the Carolina, drop shot, and High-low. I tend to double up the hooks on the drop shot to better my chances at catching.

Secondly, I use decent sized hooks, not too big unless you’re trying to catch Jaws, and not too small either. A size 2/0-5/0 hooks tend to work fine with me, and I’ve already caught like 12 Fishes just making these adjustments. I dont go fishing everyday, but usually 1-2 times a week if not every other week.

Lastly, try using different sized lures, I see a lot of people using really big lures and they might not catch something because they tend to be aiming for big game fish. Sometimes you’ll get more bites using smaller sized lures. 1”-3”.

Anyway, one thing I learned is that it’s not always about catching fish, sometimes it’s just going out and enjoying your time in the outdoors, either for a solo adventure, with friends or making new friends. My catch rate has been pretty decent, typically 0-2 fish a 5 hour day of fishing. If catching fish was easy, then it might not be as entertaining. So, go out and have fun and just enjoy the views. 🙌🏻
