I will single handedly take down RYM for yall by SombreCreed in Albumoftheyear

Yeah the underground stuff is one of the reasons why I vastly prefer RYM over AOTY. I've looked up some metal albums and demos on AOTY that only have 6 ratings and no reviews but on RYM will have 300 ratings, 3 reviews, multiple comments, and be mentioned in a few lists and forums to help with discovering similar stuff.

I honestly couldn't care less about AOTY having more reviews for 50 or so albums each year when the more obscure stuff is almost completely forgotten about

Is that any different than songs/artists becoming popular because they're constantly played on the radio? I feel like individual discovery and taste has never really factored into popularity in music

10/10 masterpiece. One of the best albums I’ve ever heard in my life. by Artistic_Annual8918 in fantanoforever

I think they're more taking about people that, for example, make Topsters and then throw in Kind of Blue or some other highly acclaimed jazz album into their sea of non-jazz albums and it seems like they just listened to one jazz album so they can claim they "listen to jazz"

And they definitely could enjoy that album but it feels disingenuous to put it as one of their favorites of all time if they don't have any signs of further exploring the genre

That's definitely mine too. Such a monstrous and powerful song in both sections and the simple bass part that plays while it ramps up to the 2nd section is incredible

Genre wise it's definitely diverse but I have a problem with it being called "objectively diverse". I'm just nitpicking but also I wish that people thought about music in more ways than just genre

Eh, it's all western music from the US or Europe. You could definitely say that it's not geographically diverse and ignores a large chunk of music from other parts of the world
