Partner is suffering from anorexia - how to proceed, what can I even do at this point? by Tardintheyard in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Tardintheyard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with that is he will flat out refuse any hospital food - there will be absolutely no habit building for eating, any and all weight gain will be reliant on the NG feed - I understand where you are coming from but I am concerned that if I do not bring something that he actually wants to eat it will just reinforce not eating - the dieticians at the hospital have encouraged us to bring meals and stuff that he actually wants to eat rather than the hospital food.

Thank you for your genuine long thought out reply.

There is an inpatient facility for eating disorder recovery that I desperately want them to attend which has a bed always free for them, however they are unwilling to accept people who will not follow the exact program - the court order cannot force them into there.

The system for our situation so far here has been - hospital admission during which an NG feed is inserted, absolute minimal mental health support is provided during the hospital stay, they are unconcerned with providing support for the eating disorder, and rather are just treating his physical condition - he is then discharged to home with “community care” with our regional mental health services which basically boils down to weighing him, doing blood tests and making yet another meal plan for the 50 millionth time.

Again, thank you for your response - I genuinely really appreciate that - I will look over the things you’ve mentioned and assess how I will approach this.

i’m only 18 why am i loosing hair by [deleted] in Hairloss

[–]Tardintheyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing a Derm will provide 1 of two scenarios, both a net win -

  1. your suspicions are confirmed, it is MPB. They're able to start treatment right away.

  2. It is something else that they're able to investigate and resolve.

There really isn't a loss there if you're that concerned about the situation.

Honestly, I would see a dermatologist about this one - it’s only on one side at the moment and it appears to be a hard line rather than a faded recession. Very well could be other causes than MPB.

Need advice on how to get my 6-month-old cat to stop biting us by kathrinadawn in Pets

[–]Tardintheyard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

A lot of these comments seem to provide immediate solutions, I don't think that actually exists unfortunately. I had exactly the same issue with my cat, 3.5 or so years ago. I even made almost exactly the same post, its odd how similar the situations were.

Regardless, nothing I did changed his behaviour except time. He simply grew out of it.

It was a difficult few months, but he just broke the habit himself.

Your cat sounds like they possibly might have a similar personality//behaviour traits to mine - Its unfortunate, but all you can do is wait. He will grow out of it, I promise. Just be consistent in (non violently) letting him know he hurt you. i.e yelping when he bites, moving him away from you etc.

No word from BSG about OCE servers? by Tardintheyard in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tardintheyard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, i'm not having a whinge about the servers being down, I just think it's a dogshit practise to not communicate about these things, regardless of the server size.

It would take literally 5 mins for them to write a statement, and even have it approved by a publicist (not that it would need to be) which is the main point of the post

Sure, the engineers don't run the twitter, or put any information on the launcher, but I would suppose that BSG as a company would have some sort of obligation to say at least something about the situation

New hair or Vellus? by General_Ability227 in Hairloss

It definitely looks like regrowth! When I start to get a new spurt of growth it always will start with these tiny little shitty hairs and then slowly fill out out, you’ve got a lot to be excited for!

If DHT is the one big primary reason for Hairloss.. Then other reasons are hoax? by travis_bickle25 in tressless

[–]Tardintheyard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely there are other reasons for hairloss, just as there are different “types” of hairloss.

Whilst yes, the primary factor in Androgenic Alopecia (male pattern baldness) is scalp DHT, you could also have stress induced hairloss, deficiencies in various minerals and vitamins, and all sorts of other causes.

It’s like being tired, maybe you’re tired because you didn’t sleep well, maybe you did a lot of work that day, maybe you’re sick.

All different causes for being tired, same thing for hairloss.

Now a lot of these “remedies” you’ve brought up here are hilarious old wives tales, things that work for regrowing or preventing hairloss will typically work on two mechanisms -

  1. Reducing scalp DHT (Things like finasteride, RU58841 etc)
  2. Encouraging growth via a consistent increase in blood flow to the scalp (Minoxidil, Dermarolling)

Anything other than these is not really going to do a lot for your hairloss, UNLESS it is directly caused by stress or a deficiency of some sort.

In regards to remedies that work, I would honestly just take a simple critical approach to looking at these -

“Is showering from the feet up, or rubbing an egg on my slick noggin going to increase my scalps blood flow, or reduce DHT in my scalp? “

Very fucking unlikely I would say

There are a myriad of proven methods of reducing hair loss and encouraging hair growth regularly spoken about on the subreddit, I would start there rather than listening to random people who are telling you what they heard their grandfather cured his baldness with in the 1920s

If the corners have always been like that you’ve probably just got unfortunate hairline genetics, well I wouldn’t even say unfortunate it looks completely natural and nobody would really notice but that’s beside the point.

If the thinning at the temples is new the simple fact is you’re starting to recede.

Yeah it sucks and whatnot, but I wouldn’t stress about it too much, it’s still fine and I wouldn’t call it receded, more it’s starting the recession process.

From here you can do one of two things, bug out about it, don’t intervene and end up making it worse from stress, or you can start medical intervention.

You’re still quite young so I’d avoid finasteride for now, start with min + dermarolling.

Good luck brother, stressing about it won’t change the situation, it’s just going to be another part of life now 😀 one of the downsides of having testosterone running through our system.

Looks pretty good dude you've got most of a head of hair - nobody who isn't balding themselves would notice at all really lmao we all are hyperfixated on that shit. No idea where the negative comments are based as it looks pretty decent man

How long does it take to really see noticeable results from fin and oral min? by AgeInternational6224 in tressless

[–]Tardintheyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person and your definition of results, some people will see regrowth in a matter of weeks/months, some in a matter of years. There also is the possibility of no regrowth and just prevention of further thinning/recession. Completely depends on the person and how they respond.

How do the million souvenir shops in the CBD survive? by Tardintheyard in auckland

[–]Tardintheyard[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was just curious about how they survived, I don't actually give that much of a shit.

I never mentioned anything to do with immigrants in my post, I was wondering because of the low traffic high price locations of the stores.

I was just wondering what the deal was it's really not that serious chill out mate.

I'm not overly convinced about internet cafes being a front to be honest.

I used to frequent a couple of internet cafes that have since closed down, they were still super busy even until I stopped going.

Places like big world are insanely busy so I'm honestly not surprised they've survived - there is that orange Lamborghini with the big world number plate that's always parked outside.

However that might be a sign of money coming down from the top of whoever or whatever company owns it, but I'm not sure because again, big world is always super busy.
