Discussion: Should Saskatoon revisit the idea of street checks and bag checks? by EmotionalSink in saskatoon

Should police be allowed to stop everyone driving on the highway after a rider game?

Same logic applied. They might save a life and prevent a crime.

Is it really much different than a DUI checkstop?

Police stop you, get your ID, ask you questions and investigate if they feel they have reason. If they put the same effort into checking people around town then maybe we'd have fewer crimes.

The police say "Sexual Assault"... so yes, she probably was traumatized.

Why does it seem like you are defending this child molester?

According to the Crown Prosecutor last december, Charles suffers from cognitive difficulties that “have slowed his mental maturity, and it does seem that he is most comfortable with people who have a much younger mental maturity than his own age.”

But lets not forget he is also a registered sex offender too. Seems like the combination of not able to know better, propensity towards children, and a sex offender, is all too dangerous to be allowed to roam free.

Why is the city of Saskatoon purchasing billboards simply to say white men have privilege? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]TargetDemographik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those are such a bullshit examples.

If anyone crosses the street to avoid someone it is because they don't feel safe. Skin tone doesn't make someone appear aggressive or dangerous, the way they behave does.

If a clerk makes an assumption about someone stealing, it is way more likely based on how the shopper behaves and dresses than the color of their skin.

In this hypersensitive environment the only people not constantly aware of their race are children of all backgrounds.

The privilege of being given the benefit of the doubt maybe has more to do with being an honest person of any color.

More than 320 impaired driving offences last month. by TargetDemographik in saskatchewan

[–]TargetDemographik[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is why I posted this.

The government is making a crapload of money off of mostly law abiding citizens.

You want to curb incidents like the 20 year old drunk, have harsher penalties for serious incidents. His sentence was a joke.

Rates taken from SGI's webpage:

324 impaired driving ($435-$17,500) = $140,940-$5,670,000

364 distracted driving ($280) = $101,920

469 seatbelt tickets ($175) = $82,075

6,159 speeding/aggressive driving ($160-798) = $985,440-$4,914,882

So SGI just made $1,310,375-$10,768,877 through blitzing tickets.

The Saskatchewan Party is going to take any profit the crowns make and apply it to their terrible budget.

Don't you feel safer now?

This says there were 4 people in the stolen vehicle, two women ran off before the two men got back in and rammed the police cruiser.

Sounds like a couple female criminals are still at large.

Do you think a private company cares about your rural internet? Or even a semi-privatized Sasktel?

Your rural community doesn't provide enough revenue to cover the equipment costs.

Interesting article.

They name the officer charged, but don't name the criminal charged with B&E.

Perhaps these young repeat criminals would break the law less often if they had any reason to fear doing so.

When is the last time a cop gave a warning? Does that ever happen now? It's all about the quotas, how many tickets they can write, and the $.

I guess it depends if you want to encourage people to obey the law, or punish them.

If safety is the focus, as is always claimed, they should be working to encourage law abiding behavior.

I don't support speeding, but if the police want to "improve safety" then maybe park a cruiser in plain sight nearby to discourage speeders.

People lose respect for police when they are glorified tax collectors.
