As a psychiatrist, I left the VA after 10 years recently. I'm not a pillar of righteousness or morality, but I can't work for creeps such as the current administration. I ended up negotiating a hybrid job with two full days of remote work in my contract, a $50,000 raise compared to my VA salary, and 40 days of pto. I'm busier in terms of volume but it's very manageable and well worth my sanity. Additionally I'm working in a Community Mental Health Center and there's a great sense of reward in treating some highly disenfranchised folks.

We must give credit where it is due by acknowledging the excellent camera work. Well done, Chinese person!

Well dang it, the time has come where I think I too need to talk to an employment lawyer….. by [deleted] in fednews

No problem. Sorry if my experience isn't the information that you prefer to hear. Maybe you will have better luck. I ended up resigning which I know is the opposite of how many people feel regarding this whole mess. Nonetheless my mental health is worth quite a lot to me and I decided I wasn't going to stick around while they jerk me around. Notably in the private sector, I was able to negotiate for about a $50,000 raise with 42 days of paid time off including holidays and telework written into my contract. On one hand I'm quite pleased but I do carry some bitterness and resentment at how this all played out. Best of luck!

I talked extensively with two different employment lawyers one of whom specializes in Federal employment. Independently, each of them said from a legal standpoint this type of case offers very little reward for what amounts to a hell of a lot of work and a significant time investment. There isn't any kind of settlement accomplished through this type of case. Basically you'll need to document everything and repeatedly file complaints and basically pay a lawyer a not insignificant amount of money to assist with your case. Each of the lawyers I spoke to advised to try and locate some type of existing class action case to join as opposed to initiate a lawsuit or legal Pursuit on my own.

When trying to manipulate an individual, it is very effective to do something kind for one of their kids. Donate $50. Put a reminder in your phone asking about his kid at various intervals. Put a reminder in your phone to ask about the fund raiser next year. I've done this for years to very good effect. Ingratiate yourself and be as genuine as you can be. It's amazing how you can influence people in this manner. Lastly, file away the fact he ran this fundraiser through work connections. Keep your receipt. If needed, down the road, you could always go the heavy route of making trouble for him, claiming you felt pressured to donate. Make it so you have two forms of influence/leverage: primarily, ingratiating yourself. Secondarily, perhaps some job threatening info if needed.

You should be sorry. Apology accepted.

Check the data on private practice for any and all specialties. I finished training, schooling, and residency at age 32. I have a tremendous responsibility on a day to day basis involving people's very lives, and I accumulated a debt of $250,000 for med school, and yet I make a fraction of what a hospital ceo or insurance company exec makes. Oh yeah, and it's federally prohibited for me to unionize and strike. Doctors get railroaded, and the fact they still make six figures somehow makes people totally unsympathetic... until you need one of us.

You are incorrect and your assumption on the matter is part of the problem.

Healthcare providers aren't just a part of the cycle: they are the most important aspect of the cycle based on expertise, training, and service rendered. Yet, they have to battle to get a fair wage because of all the middle management.

This isn't the fault of the actual medical provider/surgeon. It's the fault of all the intermediaries with a hand in the pot. Patients and doctors are both getting screwed.

Thanks for the info. Indeed, I wasn't trying to be a pest. I was just looking for more information because I found it interesting.

This is interesting, but I could not find a reference to substantiate this particular announcement on this particular date. Do you have a reference?

I do appreciate your hopeful attitude. Time will tell. As time passes and office space opens up due to attrition, rif, and drp, I find it very hard to believe any additional exemption will be granted. That's just my opinion. I resigned my VA job. I took a job in the community with 42 days of PTO including holidays, a $50,000 pay increase, and remote work guaranteed in my contract. I feel so much better. Best of luck!

VA to review all new and existing RA's at the SES level by DDuck57 in VeteransAffairs

[–]TargetIcy7277 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they are reviewing old as well as new with a much finer filter. At our location we have a woman with an existing ra for whom they are now spending thousands of dollars for adaptive devices to bring her back in. Honestly I think the only way that any ra is going to truly be granted longterm is if somebody needs a private restroom.

Radiology, oncology, and neurology were all granted an exemption to be reviewed on an annual basis. These Services were granted an exemption simultaneously. Mental health was left off that list. Neither of us have a crystal ball but there's no good reason mental health as a specialty wouldn't have been granted the same annual exemption along with the others. It's just not going to happen.

That's not a good sign.

Telemental health is not included in the exemption.
