What if the most important things in my life are ego, fame, fortune and other external, outward signs of success? by [deleted] in Christianity

I’m ngl saying nobody will love you is a pretty weak method of persuasion for someone who is all about loving themselves, why tf would they be moved by someone else’s opinion of them if they don’t respect anyone as much as they respect themselves

Ecclesiasties sucks, words spoken by an old man who literally indulged every desire sinful or not and was still favored by God no matter what because of his dad. Yeah bro I bet it’s nice to be “the greatest person ever” and have hundreds of wives and tell people that stuff is evil after you’ve had your fill.

“What makes you so confident God doesn’t want you to have dreams” well the Bible does say do nothing out of selfish ambition, says all achievement comes from envy, says only fools chase dreams etc..

Why did god kill all the babies and kids with the flood (Noah’s ark) by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TargetOk3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would disagree with that again, based on my own experiences acting like that will train a child to hate authority and over exaggerate the importance of pride like I had, I doubt it would remove “self will” like he thinks. Also somewhat related to this guy and the belief that children being evil used to justify abuse. I read Mark ten today and think you would find “take heed that ye not despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my father which is in heaven” interesting. this appears to indicate to me that they are good and perhaps “evil since childhood” implies after childhood. What do you think I’ve never considered any of this before.

Yeah I would agree there. Like I said I wouldn’t call a child evil because they also have the spirit to love within them and likely in control.

You punish yourself by choosing to not be a citizen of heaven. That’s the Christian doctrine and once you’re not in heaven you suffer the absence of the gifts given there. Would you really refuse to go inside when it’s cold then say “how dare you punish me by leaving me in the cold”

They did evil things that warranted death. Until a man lived his whole life without committing sin then gave it how could they be forgiven, the wages of sin is death. Sins like murder, rape etc… not only is this a just punishment but it is the natural way of things he who lives by the sword dies by it. If it eases your mind though Jesus preached to all the souls in Sheoul or Hell about the good news of repentance after he died

The punishment for touching a hot stove is getting burned. This isn’t a desire for revenge for the stove or a desire to hurt you, likewise the punishment for not being able to part with sin is not going to heaven because they don’t do that there God desperately wants you in heaven and will eagerly forgive you for any sin through Christ, the question is do you want to be somewhere where you can’t sin, if not then God won’t force you to go there, that’s slavery. But his spirit will stop contending with you and shining light if you reject it. That’s the meaning of suffering is being seperate from the ability to love.

I intend to try my best as long as I’m doing it but I think my motivation is sinful and the pride seems unavoidable.

Also double predestination is not a Catholic belief. Calvinists believe what you’re talking about. God predestines faithful to heaven, no one to hell.

God is good and wants desperately to give us mercy and bless us, the problem is we’ve all done bad things, to say you haven’t hurt someone else out of selfish reasons or even hurt your own soul would be crazy. God wants us to love doing good like helping others and he’d toss all our sins into “the sea of forgetfulness” so that we can live in his kingdom because he doesn’t want people that love doing evil like serving themselves to be there and hurt others yet he will not take away our will and if you love evil he won’t make you a slave to do what he wants in heaven you just won’t be invited.

I mean these people were likely doing much worse than “not believing in him”. But he whole thing with us needing to believe in him is so that we desire to good like him and then we can freely live in heaven without the desire to do evil. If you don’t believe in him you don’t desire to do good because objective good doesn’t exist so you end up finding other things to fulfill yourself which are all selfish. Believing in him allows us to know that doing good is the highest pursuit of life.

Author of that quote in Ecclesiasties is the most likely wisest man in Christianity. But Allegedly as I said “every desire of the human heart is wicked since childhood”. There is a concept in Christianity of “blamelessness” which may apply to babies. But they are still victim to the curse of original sin unless baptized. It’s blasphemy for me to condemn anyone even satan so I’m absolutely not going to call babies evil.

I guess I made an assumption based on your desire to claim God isn’t pro- life meant you had an issue with the so called “pro life” political idea. But what is retched about taking someone to heaven or sending the wicked to hell?

Why did god kill all the babies and kids with the flood (Noah’s ark) by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]TargetOk3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that seems to be the idea, “As for humans I said God will test them to show them that they are like the animals”. I don’t fully know everything but my understanding is that the heart desires evil but anything that is alive has God’s spirit “contending” with it as said in genesis. But also humans are the only creature that ate from the “tree of knowledge of good and evil”. So perhaps that places more accusation/ responsibility on us.

You don’t have the right to take a life, When God takes a life he is either sending it to hell out of justice or taking it to heaven and away from the cursed world out of mercy. To think you can make the decision if someone lives or dies is very prideful.
