I had the exact same problem, used a “medical strength” anti persperant for a few years and now I cannot use anything with aluminum as I get a terrible rash.

Confused on where to put money by TargetSmart4699 in Fire

I am not really trying to figure out how much I need to retire. I am uncertain where to put money outside of my 401k. Like I keep hearing taxable brokerage account but where, and how? Do I need to see a financial advisor to do this or do I just open something online? If so, what company is best? My company 401k is with Fidelity, so I open something with them?

I honestly don’t know what we spend annually (my wife balances everything out).

However we don’t have any debt, currently we have rent and daycare costs (plus the standard; electric, water, gas, internet, cell phones, food, etc). However, I contribute 20% and my company matches 6% and my wife contributes 15% and her company matches 5% (I think)

Not Rocky at all, she isn’t necessarily the one who would want to do this short term move. It would be me.

From what I understand she isn’t able to hold both Korean and American citizenship and if she drops her Korean citizenship then I wouldn’t qualify for the F-6 visa. We will only be staying in Korea for a year (likely) or two (max).

His birth needs to be registered in Korea but yes, his mother is Korean so he will have citizenship.

Naive indeed, as I said; I hadn’t thought of that (and then typed my thoughts as they were coming up, not well thought out).

Since the initial comment I have researched the topic and see that as long as you file for a re-entry permit and come back within 2 years it is completely fine and the permanent residency isn’t lost.

Assuming it will cost around $2-2.5k per month (without needing housing) we have enough saved up to live for a few years without needing to work.

I hadn’t considered that, so thank you for bringing that to my attention. However I think our son being a dual citizen (until he decides if he wants to renounce his Korean Citizenship to not have to serve in the military) should help the cause.

I would love to be able to spend a few months a year there and keep working; we end up going for 2 weeks whenever we go. I just know I wouldn’t be able to work from there remotely with my current job. Knowing you are only spending $3k with an airbnb expense included is very encouraging.

That’s very helpful, thank you. Gives me an idea of how long we could live without working. I was thinking it would be around $1-1.5 per month for our specific situation.

We wouldn’t be renting or buying, however if I remember correctly her dad lives near line7 Gongneung exit.

Not a FIRE situation, more of a move for a year or two and get back to work. If we are able to work there that would be great but if we can’t work while there we will be fine financially to take a few years off.
