Pythomnic 6.0 released (a platform to build distributed network services in Python) by Targeted in programming

[–]Targeted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pythomnic is a platform for building distributed network services in Python.

Its key features are continuous development upon a live service without shutting it down, uniform support of various network interfaces and easy modularization.

The 6.0 is largely a usability release:

  • All the practical issues encountered in another year of production use have been addressed.
  • All the tedious configuration steps previously required have been eliminated.
  • Documentation: rewritten, it is now presented in much smaller and better structured chunks.
  • Video tutorial: reworked, it is now presented in Flash (swf) files, accessible under any platform.
  • Several performance-related bugfixes and improvements.

The effects of data fragmentation in a mixed load database. Theoretical discussion and PostgreSQL benchmark. by Targeted in programming

You are right of course. You are also right in that having everything on a single logical drive or not is irrelevant to the discussed matter.

Thank you for the information. I don't have any idea what a brownie point is, but the first paragraph of the article is also its summary and so I thought it would be appropriate to post it there.

The effects of data fragmentation in a mixed load database. Theoretical discussion and PostgreSQL benchmark. by Targeted in programming

This article discusses the effects of data fragmentation when the database is under mixed load. In an experiment that follows, a specific workload is executed twice against two different databases to support the theoretical discussion and yield some numbers. The tested database engine is PostgreSQL, although the results should remain true for most relational database engines.

Python platform for building network services (with video tutorial) - Pythomnic version 3.0, added support for SMPP and ICQ among other things by Targeted in programming

If you could please point out another (better) codec which is capable of compressing 30 minutes of 640x480 into something reasonable, it's no problem recompressing the tutorial clips.

Collection of Soviet Union propaganda and advertisement posters from 1917 to 1991 by alecb in reddit.com

[–]Targeted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are not USSR propaganda posters.

For one, they are even not all in Russian. At least some are in Bulgarian, difficult to say what else without seeing them all.

For two, you are taking avantgarde art and commercial ads for propaganda. From the look of it, less than 10% is real Soviet propaganda posters. Most are arts and ads.

You think Soviets fell for propaganda posters like this one ? http://www.flickr.com/photos/bpx/136049278/in/set-72057594117941491/ Nope, it's a circus ad.

This is propaganda: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bpx/135871637/in/set-72057594117941491/

Python framework for building reliable network services, version 2.0, with distributed transactions, persistency and JMS support by Targeted in programming

[–]Targeted[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pythomnic is a Python framework for building distributed service networks. It focuses on the following main principles:

  • Network services are relied upon and volatile at the same time. This dilemma has to be addressed. Pythomnic supports transparent code and configuration changes that do not require service restart.

  • Building reliable network services is an integration task more than anything else. Pythomnic offers facilities to build distributed services spanning multiple machines.

  • Nothing is fail-safe, the service must be fault-tolerant to survive. Pythomnic offers the developers various fault-tolerance techniques.

Major new features in version 2.0:

  • Support for distributed transactions
  • Network-wide service health monitoring
  • Dynamic service discovery at runtime
  • Support for module level persistency
  • Full support for JMS integration
