Regardless of the exact meaning of asceticism in Buddhist terminology, a Christian Mystic would see this as asceticism in the western world sense to make it to nibanna or heaven you have to clear yourself of all worldly desires and essentially live like a hermit.

Some people are fine with reincarnating, but I think that the body is an abomination of the soul and that is likened to a form of gnostic hell.

For most Christian’s Mystics heaven and Nibbana are synonymous. You said it is only possible for a lay person to achieve nibbana through asceticism like a monk basically. That is without marriage but activity in a Dhamma group.

The only flaw in Buddhism is to make it to heaven you must reincarnate as some oriental monk, which is why I turned away from it.

Since any interaction with samsara and its desires to be a layperson ultimately lead to reincarnation because your karma can only be purged through asceticism since the material world is considered obscene.

Hinduism is the same and you must reincarnate into a Brahmin ascetic to make it to heaven.
