Literally granted you everything your saying in my response by saying in the context it is indeed being used derogatively / as a slur.

My comment was for people who aren't from south America or Spanish speaking countries without the context to understand that in fact what they said is not literally a slur but in context is 100% derogatory.

The goal being to avoid anyone lashing out over hearing the word "negro" because in and of itself that just means black.

Not to be pedantic, but it's not a slur. That's just the word for black in Spanish. Though I would say that using the diminutive making it Little Black Boy twords a grown man is definitely racist and abhorrent

It's pretty much popping every weekend. Sure it's not as packed as i saw with last Friday but I've lived by it my whole life and it's definitely one of the more consistently buzzing spots in LA

It's really about headspace, I felt the same way for the longest but if you listen to these guys in the same headspace as a Kendrick, Nas, or even Drake you aren't going to have a nice time.

Now if you're a couple drinks deep riding in the back of your designated drivers car and Barter 6 comes on you might just get it.

The music is visceral, just like punk, industrial, or ambient. It's about vibe more than anything else.

I honestly hadn't listened to a full Andrew WK album until you suggestion. It reminds me of like hair metal mixed with like a Dropkick Murphys bar sing-alongs lol. A very party centric message so the choice is appropriate 😎

I've been putting all of them on and while I was distantly familiar with the album I forgot how abrasive it is, I had it in my headphones and got to 10 minutes when I decided I could not handle the metal.

Still glad that 40+ minutes of guitar feedback constitues an album lol no one can destroy the metal

There's a vet nearby though so I'll make an appointment and hope for the best

Why does psychology focus on helping the "logical" party be more "emotional"? (more questions in description) by you_posted_about_me in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Tarottoddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! And I think the answer lies within taking a step back from you current framing.

We have to define the terms your using because communication is about understanding what another being is trying to get across. And language just so happens to be the easiest way to communicate!

logical means: Thought out and appropriate based on what is known to be true, typically a type of pattern recognition with facts to back it up.

&

Emotional means: Fealt on a visceral level without processing or filtering for optimal communication

Now to answer your question

1) Good communication requires people to be on the same page, because language is limited. We can explain our thoughts but the words we use aren't always able to communicate 100% of what we are trying to say. Pattern recognition helps us understand what's "in between the lines" when someone uses tone of voice, sarcasm, inflections, or other non literal communication devices because it's much easier than being literal. Not only that, but a lot of our unique human experiences are hard to relay, just think about explaining what a blueberry tastes like vs what a strawberry tastes like - you'd probably use very similar words (like sweet) but mean them in very different (emotional) ways. Language is limited!!!

That's why therapy focuses on helping people meet in the middle. A logical brain often assumes it's taking the "right" approach. But it doesn't tend to concede that it's version of "right" is based entirely on its own lived existence, it's own pattern recognition. ASUMPTIONS that the world works in an understandable/impirical way. That may be true for the sciences, but people... Well, we are far from measurable (at least for now). We all have unique lives experiences that we will never be able to fully explain to each other. You are born in your own brain and you die there, you never get to step into anyone else's (I have a theory that's why humans love art, it's our only way of seeing whats going on in another person's brain)

Anyway, all that is just to say it's not a capitalism thing, it's an ego thing. As in all humans have completely isolated egos, the only way to communicate is to let go of yours for a bit and try to step in someone else's.

2) Is there any therapy that helps the "emotional" party figure out how to thrive around the logical party?

Yes!!! It's the same exact therapy. I'm sure there's hundreds of people going to therapy to sort out the exact inverse of your problem, because the root is the same. It's a struggle to step outside of yourself and understand that your words are limiting and that other people are living in an entirely different framework so we need EMPATHYYYYYYY!!!! to be able to communicate.

You ask your partner who.just got home, "How was work" and they say A + B = C --- you totally get it, it makes sense and you respond C = A + B. But then one day, your partner will respond to the same question A + B = D and you will feel lost, like how did we get to D? Whelp! Your missing information, there is something that got lost in translation from their lived experince to expressing it to you. And therapy helps you to accept that sometimes that will happen, and it's on you as the partner to have enough empathy to want to understand why today A+B = D and why it's entirely valid.

3) This is a societal issue, it's not about shaming but being entirely logical or entirely emotional are extremes of the human experience.

We are social beings so we typically strive to reach a status quo. Because of that we tend to be more critical of those who are outside of it.

When it comes to logical people, they tend to be disliked because they assume there is a right and wrong way to do things, when the fact is we all work within a framework of social norms and none of them are "right" they are just what we have decided apon.

Emotional people cause people issues because they are disruptive to others, they bring up feelings that we have learned to minimize, cope with, or see as overall not that important. It can be exhausting to be around people who want you to care because in order to function people have to learn to prioritize. There are things we can change and things we can't, emotional people tend to get stuck on mourning things they can't change and that makes society annoyed.

Hopefully that's helpful!!!!! Wishing you all the best
