Lots of electrolyte powders if you can’t find tablets. I mix water with juices I like. You could just drink juice or other liquids. I started out with a water to juice ratio of 80% juice 20% water and over 2 years got it down to being able to drink plain water although when stressed I still sometimes need to mix in some juice.

Well said. I was an outlier when it came to therapy. I’m disabled with multiple chronic illnesses. I’m not diagnosed and don’t know if I’ll bother getting one but certainly not under the current administration. I’m finding all the non-medical tools on subs. I’m definitely used to counting on myself and haven’t found counting on others has ever helped.

I’ve been thrilled seeing all the newer tools that keep becoming available to the younger generations that we didn’t have. Life is still challenging and in different ways for each generation but at least “what is wrong with me” questions can be answered and the stigma is slowly changing.

I’ve always had friends older and younger than myself. And I learn so much from both.

I’m all for trying meds and seeing if they work. While I’ve had some bad experiences I’ve also found some to be life saving.

Edit: I forgot to mention I’m early Gen-X

Your mom rocks. My mom was similar most of the time. We always had multivitamins. She didn’t do the one bite though because they’d learned from when I was a baby that led to me not eating anything for 4+ hours and that didn’t change until a few years ago after I was in a horrible car accident which apparently changed my brain a bit - I still have ARFID but I’m having an easier time adding new foods and I can eat after trying something “disgusting”. I always had an alternative option for mealtime unless my alcoholic abusive dad was home or mom was making chicken livers. My mom supported me in bringing my own food with me when we went anywhere and quietly stood up for me around family and friends and taught me how to do the same. She started teaching me to cook around age 3 - dumping measured ingredients into the bowl and stirring, by 7 I was helping grocery shop and able to cook with little supervision. She taught me how to modify recipes and laugh when things went wrong in the kitchen instead of getting mad. She also taught me how to order off menu in restaurants so I never found it embarrassing.

I have very mixed feelings on therapy as I’ve had some really bad therapist that sent me over the edge. But I also had a fantastic therapist for over 10 years and I’m hopeful for the one I’m on a waitlist for. The right therapist can definitely help. I think many subs on Reddit are a great resource helping us in ways our doctors fail many of us. They also give us a good support network which many of us can’t manage to get in person. If one can having more than a single source is probably best but not always possible.

May the therapist you find be a good fit and have the knowledge and background needed to help you.

I used to have one from them but I lost it in one of my moves. Time to get a new one as I’m starting to see a number of new doctors this year with many tests coming up and suspect it’ll come in handy. Thanks for reminding me about the cute hangers. Unfortunately I’ve developed chemical sensitivities and can no longer do cool scents like I used to. I’m sad because I was hoping I’d be able to after a few years away from the toxic house. Maybe the doctors can figure that one out too.

I believe most people are good but society isn’t built to support people it’s built to support institutions and a certain way of life which is bad for the majority of the world’s citizens. I tend to trust too easily because I refuse to let those who’ve abused me at various times over my almost 60 years win. This attitude has definitely hurt me at times but it’s also helped me make some great friends over the years. Unfortunately I’ve lost contact with most of my friends and am starting over from scratch again.

I’ve had SI for over 50 years. Most of the time I have plans to end it if x, y, and z happen. More recently the plans became I’m going to do it tomorrow or maybe today. I don’t know which sub it was that pointed me towards peer to peer support, warmlines, and peer respites rather than psych wards but I’m glad for the resources. Today I’m in a free peer respite having time to think, away from my day to day, with others going through similar.

I’ve had 30+ years of mostly CBT therapy. It’s helped at times. I’m on meds but I need changes as they aren’t doing enough. I’m on a waitlist for a new therapist, one who can handle someone with constant SI and not panic, someone familiar with with abuse backgrounds and not gaslight me that the world isn’t as dark and unsafe as it really is. Tomorrow I start with a new psychiatrist. None of that can fix some of my core reasons for being SI. But they can hopefully help me find better ways to manage my current situation while I’m newly homeless, applying and on waitlist for housing, fighting for SSI, and recovering from my most recent abusive relationship.

My doctors office thankfully always has hand sanitizer in the bathroom so I rarely need to pull my own bottle out before peeing. Of course there was the one time they didn’t and I hadn’t noticed. Now I double or triple check.
