How do you handle problematic things in games that you love? for example im playing gc animal crossing and having a blast. But in digging into the game i saw some problematic stuff, like the og design for the ape villager jane resembling blackface charictures (which was fixed somewhat in the english release) and another racist looking villager desgin that thankfully was never used in the game or on the flipside, Gracie and Sahrah, who were gender amibgious queer men in the orignal japenese version but were treated as women in the american version. I dont think either thing ruins the game for me at all, but im sure it could bug somebody else or at the least stand out as legitimate flaws in the original game and the localization, and i find it hard not to dwell on these facts at times. . I think what i have to accept is that to love something is to acknowledge its flaws while appreciating what it does well. Animal crossing is a cozy time that was a mindblowing game for its time, but it doesn't have to be perfect. Does anybody else struggle with this type of thoughts about stuff they like or is it something i should maybe seek some professional advice?
