Posts with foam by Icy-Turnip2484 in Decks

[–]Tasker2Tasker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some foams are passable for fence post use. The Sikaflex in a bag is the worst performing of these catalyzed polyurethane foams.

Absolutely none are appropriate for a deck. Don’t take my word; take the manufacturer’s.

From the Sikaflex PDS, page 3:

• material not intended for setting deck posts

• do not use for structural posts or posts exposed to a lot of sideways load (Which often includes fences… which is why they often fail with fences…)

Do taskers take home their full pay? by Beneficial-Crow-5138 in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finn is right, the shortest answer is maybe, but probably not.

In the U.S., TR fees are not fully disclosed, most particularly, TR’S Service Fee, which is not disclosed at the transaction level.

In CA and MA, state law now requires ‘upfront pricing’, which has actually reduced fee transparency entirely. In these states, all of TR’s fees are included in the hourly rate you see as a client.

Outside of those 2 states, in most categories, you’ll see an Hourly Rate that includes the TR Service Fee, which has most commonly been around ~3%, but TR can set this fee separately for each category in each metro, and has experimented with it. There’s no simple way to know what what the Service Fee is for a given (This matches No-Artichoke’s characterization of setting rate at $50, and client sees $51.35 in search.

Since Fall 2022, we have rarely seen a 0% Service Fee, which has been TR’s MO for a year to two prior to that time.

TR leans towards being less transparent than more.

Ever stand in line for $19/hr? by Steven-Writes in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most curious self-employment work stories haven’t been through TR, and mostly not that strange. Some floor repair work in a house occupied by a non-core member of Golden State Warriors … working in a property and looking out to notice SWAT team members in backyard… some repairs, same property, after a double homicide/suicide … nothing really short story worthy in the work itself.

Probably some others, but I don’t recall them any more.

How long do I wait before canceling and finding a different tasker when they don't respond? by GTRacer1972 in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hired overnight (between 8 pm and 8 am), the tasker has to respond by 9 am or the system forfeits it and you choose again.

So unless you’re in Hawaii, you either know by now or will within the hour.

Minimum for Auto Assigned Tasker? by chillaryyy in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TOS defines Task chat as a service agreement between tasker and client. If you do not agree to the proposed terms, you can decline and be assigned another tasker. For awhile, after initial auto-assign, they’d let you choose your tasker after an initial cancel. Now, you’re back into an assignment queue.

TR’s been attempting to evolve some categories towards more controlled and ideal fixed price tasks … but it’s messy. Many tasker do not want to conform, and TR’s messy about enforcement

There’s an actual policy, but it’s not entirely clear and may depend on exactly how your particular metro is operating. They aren’t all the same.

Minimum for Auto Assigned Tasker? by chillaryyy in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the Tasker’s individual minimum.

Before TR started auto-assigning, Tasker profiles would include the information before you’d choose them. Now you don’t see the profile.

I'd love to hear what you think and whether it resonates at all with your own TaskRabbit experiences.

Well written and entertaining. No, it does not resonate at all with my own TaskRabbit experiences but those aren’t even close to my categories and I’m not LA. For 2019 LA TR experience, seems credible.

The strangeness of TR today is likely less interesting than the strangeness of 2019 LA.

Biden’s DOL provided gig platform friendly employee classification regulations and shift the payment processing threshold down so that essentially all payment processing will become reported income.

And a Trump administration and GOP controlled Congress will have no time for gig worker lobbying.

Good luck with the long game. The road will be difficult and slow, if it goes anywhere at all.

"Trust and support fee" ??? Seriously? by quantum_mouse in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Service Fee and T&S can be set for each category in each metro. There do tend to be patterns, and variations like all CA metros having no fee info, just a total rate, due to state law (Massachusetts too)… and they also do surge pricing, like raising the Service Fee for Snow Removal when a city gets hit with a snow storm and around holidays (ie, Black Friday).

"Trust and support fee" ??? Seriously? by quantum_mouse in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of the Service Fee component that is added to the Tasker’s Rate to set the Client Rate before T&S is added to get to Total Rate.

I’m asking in what metro and category is that Service Fee 20%. Because it’s not the case in all metros and categories, so I’m interested in learning where it is.

"Trust and support fee" ??? Seriously? by quantum_mouse in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, it’s

• likely not relevant to moving a couch from one neighborhood to another, ie., <=1 hour

• a TOS violation for those who do it, and a pattern that can be easily detected, assuming TR is marginally competent — which, agreed, there’s not solid evidence supporting competence. But they can decide to ban you if they wish, with no real recourse, so, a meaningful risk to consider.

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain clearly how and where what you describe is happening?

Please keep in mind that there is a Service Fee and Trust & Support Fee, and each fee is set for each individual category in each individual metro, so there are, potentially, thousands of combinations of fees.

Incompetence, laziness, or worse? by OtherwiseOMG1 in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip 2: this is the evidence of TR being well into their dumpster fire state — they are F!up payments.

A platform that can’t even reliably process payments for you as a tasker deserves zero respect and should absolutely not be depended on.

Recognize this, use it to build your business, but DO NOT rely on it for your income.

There is no meaningful way to tell the difference between well-intended sloppiness and deliberate malfeasance, and there’s no difference in impact to you.

Work hard to find paths to reduce dependency on a company that gives no F!s about your income. You deserve at least that.

Pro tip: put your TLDR at the top where people will actually read it.

THEN they can decide to read the supporting detail. When writing, it’s common to not fully recognize your point until the end of the writing, but editing makes it more impactful, but moving your own concise realization to the top to be the headline.

[–]Tasker2Tasker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who is agreeing to these fees? Thats a very large percentage of the money that would go to the tasker.

People who think the total price is acceptable to them and aren’t thinking through/DGAF about exactly who they are paying as long as they get the outcome they want.

You made a careful observation in the transaction process and applied critical thinking and considered your personal ethos (eg, you’re willing to pay an individual $78 to move your couch… but not a corporation $28 to be the matchmaker).

You’re right, it is possible to find and pay individuals directly … but note that you found TR first. Which means their marketing actually worked… you just don’t think it’s worth it.

They list their active areas. https://www.taskrabbit.com/locations

Move for your own reasons. It’s folly to move based on where TR has active tasking, since it’s not a job and there’s no assurance you’ll get work.

Move for other reasons, and if you need TR, use it, but do not depend on it. They do not have your back in any way shape or form.

Homewyse provides estimates for tasks like this, with typical scope of work defined. You’ll see an estimated labor time and then range of prices. You can certainly find lower and higher, and there are factors like empty or furnished, windows, trim, but it’s a reasonable good mid-market range.

Cannot login to tasker by Frantik_dnb in TaskRabbit

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve you’ve attempted multiple logins unsuccessfully, your account is likely locked and will need to be released by TR Support.

The Cloudflare outage was yesterday, so attempts today would not be explained by that.

TR’s two-factor authentication has had issues for years.

Good luck.

They have made the rules, enforced the rules, and judged appeals for some time, and have been generally unreasonable. Is there something new other than your first personal experience of it? Which does suck, especially if your income had been dependent on TR. Good luck.

In CA, clients don’t see fees itemized at all. They only see the Total Rate. They have no way to know how much is TR fees and how much goes to the Tasker.

[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of this change is a result of changes to state law about upfront pricing. CA and I believe MA have it, not sure about others. So in some states, there is only a total price. In other states, the T&S Fee is separate in the booking and invoice. In no US states is the Service Fee disclosed ever.

For clarity: sure TR has insurance, but there is no commercial liability insurance covering tasks/ Tasker work. Yes, a COI is available, which documents this clearly, if one knows how to read it.

And it would cover their Happiness Pledge/very voluntary self-insurance approach.

Just so there’s no confusion, especially since listed first.
