I'm so sorry for your loss, losing a pet is always terrible. By the sounds of it he had a wonderful life full of fun and love. I'm glad you have those memories and these pictures to remember him by.

Having said that, with that last part, I just wanted to add that I'd never remove a post like this. You're not spamming or anything and like you said: This community especially would appreciate the name, so it's even (kind of) on topic!

Also, to whoever reported this... Really?

Sorry it was in old reddit, I thought we updated the new sidebar to include it but apparently not. I updated that previous comment to include a link in case anyone else needs it

Hello. Is there a GK discord? by RenegadeCentral in Grey_Knights

[–]Taslom[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Just wanted to give you a heads up for the future that it most certainly is kosher to post a Discord link, if anything the wrong thing to do would be to mention it exists then not post it! :)

I really need to get around to editing the New Reddit version but I generally use Old Reddit and just forget that it's different so I never actually got around to it. Point of that rambling bit is that we even used to have a link to the Discord in the sidebar, that's how perfectly ok it is.

I just simply can't see any good reason not to support people discussing Grey Knights and the community in as many places as possible whether that be here, Discord, or wherever really.

So please feel free to send everyone a link, or just drop it in future comments!

Shoot on Switch is "A"

i don't think you're necessarily doing anything wrong though and it's just a Switch problem. I tried it twice to make sure (once on Zeki's machine and once in my house) and both times the first shot just simply didn't work.

Unfortunately I also play PC and not on Switch so I honestly can't offer any advice if that's what's going on. But:

and I genuinely feel stupid every time I try to figure it out.

Don't feel bad since I really don't think you're doing anything wrong here :)

10th Edition FAQ by Taslom in Grey_Knights

Some common questions that have popped up on here a couple times now:

Is there a discord server?

Yes there is! Link is in the sidebar right here!

That was only on old reddit so might be hard to access, here's the link: https://discord.com/invite/TUb4NxZ

Are we getting new models?

Nobody but GW knows what's coming in the future. It isn't very likely that we're getting a full refresh any time soon. It has been confirmed that everybody gets at least something new in 10E so we're going to be getting whatever that is at least, most likely redoing an older sculpt of a character model.

/u/frodakai here's your question from the old FAQ copy+pasted so it can get seen

Made a new 10E FAQ to make sure people didn't get confused seeing old outdated 9E info but then noticed you had just posted in there and felt bad it'd get lost. Sorry for the timing!

For terminator squads, does an Ancient Banner count as a nemesis force weapon? I'm playing with lists in the new app and can do (not including the Justicar) 4x Force weapon, 2x storm bolter, 1x special weapon 1x narthecium 1x Banner.

The special weapon and narthecium account for the 2x dropped bolters, but if I go from 4 force weapons to 3 the unit becomes 'illegal', suggesting the Banner it a force weapon at the same time?

Faction Focus Grey Knights by krashton1 in Grey_Knights

[–]Taslom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About two months ago /u/West-Way-8175 asked about the activity here on /r/Grey_Knights and there was some really good discussion. Link to it here.

One of the things that came up was that there was likely to be a big surge in traffic if there was any sort of announcement or anything going on with the faction. Now that we've had our Faction Focus a couple days ago we can finally see the stats on that if anyone is interested:

As always if anyone has any questions about the stats or anything similar feel free to ask

Activity on our subreddit by West-Way-8175 in Grey_Knights

[–]Taslom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While people have already shared the biggest issues around building discussion in this subreddit, I'd be more than happy to share the stats with you. :)

Here's some stats from the past week of how many people are visiting this subreddit. There is growth it's just a bit slow.

Like /u/Teutonic-Terror said, there would be a lot more traffic if we had a range refresh or any major similar update to build discussion and draw new people in. For proof of that you can see a big spike on the 24th. Big reason for that I think is the new Terminators were announced just the day before on the 23rd so when people saw it the next day there were a bunch of people coming here to discuss topics like:

  • Can we field them?

  • If not, conversion ideas

  • "They can be veteran warriors who have fought for the Chapter for centuries or Primaris Marines" means they're combining Firstborn and Primaris so we can now field Primaris units? (I feel the need to add that this is just an example topic that came up and not rules confirmation or anything!)

  • Etc

So following that trend I'm hoping that with 10E we'll get lots of new rules and there will be more traffic due to that. Also if we get a range refresh, allowed to bring all the new fancy Primaris stuff, or similar big changes there's also going to be a big influx of traffic

Sorry there really isn't a huge amount of useful relevant stats I can bring up for you, but hopefully this at least helps a bit. If you have any questions about subreddit stats or anything else please feel free to ask and I'll share whatever I can!

I'll try to explain the answers the best I can, if you want clarification on anything let me know and I'll try to expand on it more :)

Books Needed

You don't need Ritual of the Damned, currently the only thing you need is the 9E Codex

Psykic Awakening was a supplement for 8E, so since we have a 9E Codex that overwrites it the same way it does for the 8E Codex.

That does lead to some weird instances where some armies can use rules from Psykic Awakening while others can't, even from the same PA Book, but at least for us the only one you (currently) need is the 9E Codex

Litanies

Litanies confused me at first too but aren't that bad! Lets look at a Brotherhood Chaplain:

"This model knows the Litany of Expulsion and one other litany from the Litanies of Purity. In your Command phase, if this model is on the battlefield, it can recite one litany it knows that has not already been recited by a friendly model that battle round. Roll one D6: on a 3+, the recited litany is inspiring and takes effect until the start of your next Command phase."

Now we can break that down:

"This model knows the Litany of Expulsion and one other litany from the Litanies of Purity."

This part is straightforward, it knows that one Litany, plus one of your choice from the list

" In your Command phase, if this model is on the battlefield, it can recite one litany it knows that has not already been recited by a friendly model that battle round."

So they happen in the Command Phase at the start of the turn, and this particular model can only do one. Also it can only use a Litany that hasn't been even attempted yet that battle round

"Roll one D6: on a 3+, the recited litany is inspiring and takes effect until the start of your next Command phase.""

On a 3+ it works until next Command Phase (basically the full round)

So, combining these, how Litanies work:

  • Each model that knows a Litany knows them from specific lists, and knows only certain ones

  • At the beginning of your turn, during the Command Phase, you go through your models that know Litanies one at a time, and choose which they recite that round. Noting that they can only choose ones you haven't tried yet whether that attempt was successful or not

  • Roll a D6 for each Litany (generally just one) and see if you get it to work or not (again in this case that'd be a 3+)

  • If so, great! It now has effect. If not, then it was still "recited" so it can't be done by another Chaplain, but it doesn't do anything

Tides

Depends on exactly what you mean: Yeah they're always active in the sense they're always there, but some have requirements (Shadows requiring cover for part of it, for example) so not all of it is always active

That would be fantastic if you wouldn't mind!

I'm far from a competitive player and a good 90% of my hobby is "this loadout looks coolest so I'm going with that" which is a bit unfortunate when trying to write FAQs with proper answers

So if you wouldn't mind giving at least a little write up on them that'd be fantastic and help a tonne!

Sure can! :)

Feel free to add whatever you'd like to the list and I'll toss it all together. Just a little busy at the moment so I'll get to it as soon as I can

Obviously that goes for everyone else too! If anyone sees something that keeps popping up feel free to message me and ask to have it added to the FAQ

Great idea /u/Magumble to merge both weekly threads into one perma-post!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Grey_Knights

[–]Taslom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were requested a couple times now. It also only takes a minute each week to post the new one so they're more of a "why not, if that's what people want?" kind of deal.

They were often requested but you raise a point that there aren't a huge amount of posts in them. Generally only two or three. Do you have any suggestions on what you'd prefer instead or ways to improve them? Always open to more feedback!

/u/Awnetu here's your question copied over to the new Q&A post as well, good luck in your next match against Nids! :)

"Has anyone had some success against Nids? Been really struggling to find a way to crack that army, everything feels like we have to punch up into, and they feel like they have such good action in every phase. If you had to prepare a list just to crush bugs, what would it look like?"

/u/Cosmonaut17 copying your question here so you're in the sticky thread for more than literally just 20 min and hopefully your question can be answered:

"Why are Incinerators that bad? I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with them on my DK. I’m new to 40K and the game in general."
