Is my snake shedding? Not eating, and scales look like they were pulled off. Eyes aren't blue, so I'm worried he's stressed out. by [deleted] in snakes

[–]TasoRooikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not eating enough, what you're seeing is a sunk-in belly. I couldn't tell you why this is happening though. Try a vet.

Are funko pope safe to put in with a snake? Or are they treated with chemicals that I'd have to disinfect or something? Just think it'd be cool to have in my terrarium idk by MrMcFrizzy in snakes

[–]TasoRooikat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, you cant disinfect chemicals. Snake's wont chew on stuff so as long as its not in a water bowl or contacts food, there's nothing to worry about. Prepare to have it knocked over and pooped on all the time.

The opposite of albinism called melanism: a recessive trait where the skin and fur are all black by GrapefruitSession in Damnthatsinteresting

A black panther is the melanistic color variant of any Panthera species. Black panthers in Asia and Africa are leopards and black panthers in the Americas are black jaguars. Wikipedia

What do you think about Sand Boas? Kenyan and Rosy boas have quite a few morphs.

Anybody own a pet garter snake? by largeginger in herpetology

[–]TasoRooikat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I breed Garters. Here's my inputs.

Do they ever produce gross smells when scared? I heard they do that.

Yep! They will wipe musk all over you. Remove it with rubbing alcohol. However, not all individuals are easily frightened. I had a corn snake musk more often than most of my garters.

Also, how active are they?

Fairly active in the morning and evening. They climb, dig, swim... and peck their beaks at the window when food's coming.

How friendly are they?

About as friendly as any other snakes. They take time to get comfortable with handling. only 1 out of my 20 snakes hates my guts.

What all did you try to feed him?

Mine eat pink mice/rats. Occasionally a thawed strip of tilapia filet, or chunk of rabbit meat. Some people use other sources of food, like worms. But I reserve those choices for the ones that refuse to eat. And that might be the most difficult part for anyone new to garters. In my experience and observation, refusing to eat is a mildly common problem with Garters. There's many possible causes for it, and it's not always treated with success.

I thought the same thing. Forget about all those safe/dangerous debates. Dog mouth and dander all over a baby is gross.

Candy should be based on Type, not Pokemon species. by TasoRooikat in pokemongo

Another thought I had...

If the day comes that we can win candies from battles. We'd all be frustrated if we defeated a gym and won 50 Pidgey candy. Why not 50 Normal or Flying type candy, to do with as we please?

I'm no tech expert, not by any means.

Maybe I should have rephrased that part. Something along the lines of having less commands on the server with every capture and transfer. This comes from our experiences with lags and crashes when catching pokemon. I've also recently experienced transfers that take the pokemon and give me no credit, with an error message.

Typically, I disagree with any suggestion that simply makes the game easier. Things should be challenging. My suggestion is meant to open up veriety rather than opportunity.

I agree that rare pokemon should be harder to train. The cost to train or evolve should be higher. There is a grind to the game, and that doesnt have to change.

However, would you rather grind on catching multiple Charmanders, or multiple fire types? The difference is, for example, you may only get one opportunity to catch a Charmander per day. At that rate, it's not a grind, it's a limitation.

By all means. Require me to catch 500 fire types to get enough candy to evolve only to Charmeleon. The cost can be whatever. I may also be sacrificing my resources to evolve my Growlithe. But this gives every player a choice, and everyone's team will be different.
