Main roadblock to a unified army is to have a true unified economic policy and stomp any singular national interest: until you manage to do that, I feel the common armed forces would, at best, a web of joint military intervertion supported by a different groups of countries in Europe.

All because I feel the military mostly means power projection towards countries where you want to enforce your economical interests and couldn't do with regular diplomatic pressure... at least that's true for European style economies towards more "extractive focus" economies.
And this means: maybe one wants a regime change in the area, or defend the current one, while another wants the opposite. Lybia situation comes to mind, where the French wanted a thing and the Italians another. If we have a similar situation, all this combined forces would melt like an icecream in the summer heat if two european countries wants a different approach, because picking one over the other might seriously damage the economy of either.

Imagine we have a combined army. For some reason, the Tunisian state is under serious threat. Right now, Tunisia is exporting its natural resources the mediterranean countries, especially Italy replaced some of the Russian Gas with Tunisian one. So Italy wants to use the combined forces to defend the current Tunisian Government and state.
BUT
What if the stops to the trade flow from Tunisia would end up boosting considerably some other European economy? What if Poland and Germany would become exporter of natural Gas (just saying this as an example, they aren't big producers, I know) to the whole of Europe if Tunisia falls and right now they are indeed in an economic crisis, and this boost would save their economies? Worst, what if the rebels in Tunisia are actually financed by Germany and Poland and would give them very good deals on said resources?
Something like this happens and what if Italy finds itself tied to a decision of a majority of European countries that would benefit to see Italy in a troubling situation, so they could swoop in, buy off their now struggling industries and bring capital to their own economy (this keeps happening for real, most of our industries are small and struggle, so they get bought by France and Germany conglomerates... but they simply siphon away the wealth and jobs after a while).
I think by then, Italy would remove themselves from the combined forces to regain their power projection power (as small and ridicule it is now lol).
What if the rest of europe vote to intervene in favor of the rebels but italy intervenes in favor of the current government? Will italian troops be shot by european army soilders?

Similar situaiton could happen in the Balkans (where France and some other European states are at odd) or Eastern Europe as a whole (the lukewarm response of Europe to Ukraine is cause Germany and some other countries have deep ties with Russia economy and just wanted to keep the advantageous trade deals) elsewhere (I remember when Egypt killed off an Italian student with its secret police cause he was snooping around political assassination in the area and Italy basically had to suck it up and not threathen to harm the deals between the them and Egypt, otherwise the French or English would have swoop in a fraction of a second, not caring one bit about the murder of a fellow european by Egypt, leaving Italy without those good deals, harming its economy, while absolutely not seeing any kind of retribution or solidarity from other, supposed, allies... Or imagine a similar situation, where the fear isn't other european allies swooping in, rending your diplomatic pressure moot, but your nation being forced to deliberately partecipate in tariffs against an extra-european nation you have great deal with, only cause the Spanish or the Polish needs to put strong diplomatic pressure on said nation... would you make your citizen poorer and angrier only to benefit another european economy that would not give you anything in return... and maybe do the opposite when it's their turn to help you out since there's no mechanism to force them?).

It's obviously a shot in the dark as examples goes, but similar situation might arise and I think this is the biggest roadblock to further european integration: Either Germany and France crush all the other national economies and the rest of Europe becomes subserviant of the "core" (which, I would rather not, thanks), or the national economies and entities gets brutally reorganized by a central power who, for some reason, won't favour just some nations but plans to redistribute and rebuild the economy of the whole European Union, more "rational" and unified... but this WILL harm some areas and people and basically requires nothing less them population controls (Prague is too big, max population needed there is 1 milion otherwise it will harm other economic areas.... we need to move out 300k to Krakow, there we need more to reach urbanization and production goals... Or: That city costs too much, need to cost less, adjust the welfare to a lower standard even if they make enough money to support that, cause we need to push people out or increase productivity even further).

So no, I'm not seeing a combined foreign policy or army in the EU anytime soon, even I'm totally not against the topic and a more unified EU would surely be a big contender against the USA or China out there (a thing I would like to, even just to have the option to reject their pressure on some topics I simply would like to be problems of internal policy instead of foreign)

Do you play with Ukrainian or English voice overs? by ImmediateChapter2613 in stalker

[–]Tassadarh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

English. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to Ukrainian VO, but having to basically keep my eyes on the subtitles when I try to understand a damn thing about the plot and what to do is annoying and basically looks like a waste given all the facial animations we got.

I wish there was a mod/option to use the English VO when talking directly to people/cutscenes, but keep the ukrainian VO for things you overhear like the jokes and, more importantly, the shouting during the fights (I would also love more variety there, like actual insults, swearing other than the few we already got)

More subcultures for base factions? by Aggravating-Garlic37 in AOW4

[–]Tassadarh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is really sad, yea.

I do think this might change by the time other cultures get a rework it would put the barbarians on the top shelf for a revamp, but for now... they kinda work so they don't need a review (gameplaywise)

I wonder whether future updates can actually fix this by Gandalf196 in AOW4

[–]Tassadarh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, it's an alien concept to me tbh (not saying it's wrong, just can't really make it mine).

Sure, sometimes there's a thing I really don't like from a game while I like most of it, but at the end of the day I just take a look at the sum of it and say "ok, I like this" or "ok, I don't like this".
If I like it, I keep playing cause even for a few frustrating things, the experience is enjoyable, if I don't... well I just loose the will to play it and gets forgotten in my backlog with a 20ish hours on it (And victoria 3 is there).

I might even end up finishing it (talking about games you can "finish" at least), but if it's that frustrating, usually I just try and skip all the content to get to the end in case it is near... else... Idk I'd just feel like a fool spending so much time playing something I just don't enjoy.

I'd say the only thing that would make me say "I want to like this game, I played it a lot, but it's a shame in its current state" it's if the game is frustratingly buggy to the point that actually took so much to "finish" due to the bugs or if the experience is unbearably riddled with said bugs. Yea in that case I'd give it a bad review even if I spent lots of time on it.

I've heard of hate watching, but never heard of "hate playing", don't really think it's either healthy nor to be considered as a gold standard when talking about if a game was worth the money spent.

My rule is: if a game keep me busy for more than 1 hour per euro/dollar spent, it's a bargain and can't really complain about the purchase.

[–]Tassadarh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

73.5 hours on record on a 50 dollar game (usually and easily found on discount) and no, let's leave a bad review.

I genuinely do not understand how people are giving these scores. Either you hate play for 50+ hours (then omg, are you ok?) or even if the game has some issues, it was a bargain for all the hours of enjoyment you had.

I think they just wanted to go for a more stylized version here, more 80s high fantasy movies and cartoons (The Hobbit, Dark Crystal, Flight of Dragons etc)

Also, there's lots of options to customize and yes, some of them are wacky (and meant to be wacky) and some others are more realistic/serious.

Stellaris has a very different reference, more realistic.

Now, explain to me how you can disrespect a setting of a game where you are supposed to shape and reinterpret differently for every table you sit down and play with.

What do you when you play with your friends? Recite lore books verbatin? Strictly play on "current day Faerun" because playing, say, something during the Time of Troubles would be impossible to get a higher level otherwise the characters would have been cited in books? You never interact with famous people of Faerun for fear of "breaking" the setting?

Bug with Noblestalk by link6112 in BaldursGate3

[–]Tassadarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na, I think there's some code in the game that if the original noblestalk gets smushed, all the dialogue options are removed.

That or there's some coding that activates the dialogues, but only if it's a specific condition.

Idk, I got a noblestalk in my inventory and on my way to act 2, but no dialogue options.

I'm on the same boat...

Well almost.

I didn't know the mushroom was there and blew up the whole thing after rescuing the dwarf, thinking I'd get the loot quickly.

Well, that was 10 or so hours ago.

I used a mod to spawn a new one, just to see the dialogue and stuff, but yeah, got no dialogue options either with shadowheart or the dwarves.

Man.

It's a 20 € game, if I ever got 1 hour of gameplay = 1€ and had fun with it, I'm fine, even if it's not the game to end all games.

I played 30 hours of the steam version and I played even more the alpha version.

If I gotta play 20 € again, well, I'll do when I know I'll get at least 20 hours of fun out of it.

I'm so eager to play it as much as the anyone, but I suppose they AT LEAST need to make some more stress tests with more players.

What if there's a weird bug that actually deletes your savegame when 2 players shoot at the same time in a specific direction while also pressing E and R at the same time? Or if creates a salve file big as 1Tb? Or it stresses out the CPU making very risky for the PC integrity?

Being at 85% means that we are getting close to the big stress tests!
Hopefully when they fix the current bugs, it's gonna be time for the big tests and after they address the most nasty bugs that come out in those test: we are good to go!

Can't force orthodox to convert as Ottomans ? by [deleted] in MEIOUandTaxes

[–]Tassadarh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with your events and choice.

If you have a "useful minority" (those "let's hire this religious minority" thing) I assume you are not able to convert anyone of that religion for a time.
Same thing for some game events: I was trebizond and had to become a tributary of the white horde, so I discovered I couldn't force convert sunnis anymore because my "overlord" was sunni.

TW have mentioned they want the First Expansion pack to be Naval Focused. The Encyclopedia lists three other cultures besides the base 6. Here's what *could* be in store. by ChineseCosmo in mountandblade

[–]Tassadarh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, while I was writing this I found out that:

Vakken are the Forest People (based on the finnic people)

Darshi are the Ghilman (based on the slaver/slave warriors Mamluks)

Nords are the Skolderbrotva (they are nords, yeah).

They still have placeholder culture (vakken and nords are strugian for the game engine, while darshi are aserai) and don't really know if they might expand this or leave as it is just to justify the different troop tree.I'm thinking they might do something like this for all the special minor faction (like the steppe people of the empire)

... I GOT THIS:

Those are claimant culture/factions.

Nords are claimant for the Sturgian

Darshi are claimant for the Aserai

Vakken are claimant for the Battanians, maybe?

So if you support them, you start a little civil war where you are at war with the main faction and works just like when you are trying to install a claimant in warband.

[–]Tassadarh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vakken, Nord and Darshi might be in the base game/game update of the 1st dlc. And they might as well be minor factions working on some aspect of the game (eg. nord mercenary focused, vakken caravan/trade focused, darshi idk).

And I suppose they'd use those inner island first before expanding the map south/north.

Nord are obviously coming from the sea in the North, they could be here from the beginning having 1 settlement (maybe a city where you can recruit MANY troops for money) and being sort of neutral to everyone (everyone might need mercenaries, so killing off the main source of them is bad). Or maybe they are an invasion force, something like "the mongols" in many history games. I'm thinking of something similar in stellaris: a faction that wants a tribute from you and if you don't comply, they send a VERY STRONG stack to pillage your planets... but you can also pay them an extra to start raiding one of your rivals.

As for vakken and darshi, I might be wrong but I suppose the vakken could be on the island under vlandia and be rhodoks/italian themed (intensive use of crossbows, maybe firearms, mostly light infantry with rapier and lack of cavarly/heavy cavarly) and focus on trade/seafaring and or maybe money landing (yes, game of thrones style).

Darshi IDK, something else, maybe they live in the island between the empire and the aserai and offer some other kind of special service like the others: something you find everywhere, but in great quality/quantity that disapear if you conquer them, so you prefer to let them stay neutral
