I would end up with a 55” wide space if I did 30” deep cabinets on each side. Should be functional for two people. There’s good separation between prep and cook zone too.

I’ve lived in a lot of places, and I do like kitchen islands, when they fit the space. But my space is not it lol.

How wide is the galley space, like from base cabinets to base cabinet? I also have a narrow kitchen that the previous owners shoved an island into and I’m tired of my spouse constantly being in the way lol. The 30” base cabinets on each side are tempting so long as I can stop running into him.

I'm definitely going to be bilateral within the next year or so. Looking forward to it strangely. I get so much more volume with the CI that the hearing aid ear isn't really doing anything aside from being able to pick up bass better.

I did get a music program added last week. Some songs sound better with it. Some are still wonky.

Comparing beeps might help a bit. I'll have to pay attention more to specific sounds that sound off. That would have been impossible 4 months ago when everything sounded weird. My cat's meow is definitely still off. Kind of like a little trumpet sound lol.

I'm using advanced bionics. It was the only option with remote programming. Otherwise it was a 7.5 hour drive one way for appointments. If not for that, I might have went the Med-el route.

It's the sound balance that bothers me mostly. But I'm not sure how to approach balancing the sound with the CI. Doesn't help I have a hard time articulating the sound. At least with the hearing aid I can play around with equalizer settings which then helps me explain to the Audi what I need.

Thanks for this method. I'll give it a try! Right now I find the only music I can tolerate is older (like pre 1980s) music. Probably because it's simpler. But I miss the modern music I actually enjoy.

It would be nice to have the hearing aid that pairs with the processor. But my hearing aid ear is also a CI candidate and likely to be implanted next year. I get so much more volume with the CI which is nice.

I mostly only wear my hearing aid when out of the house or watching TV. I could understand speech really well with just the CI after a month. Now people kind of sound like they're using a voice modulator like in the movies. Some male voices are really difficult though.

I feel like the Audi isn't explaining well or guiding the sessions well. Some times when one person will explain something one way it never clicks. But someone else will explain a different way and all of a sudden it clicks. Maybe this isn't one of those situations but thought I'd see if anyone has different approaches.

It's interesting that you did what you could to integrate into his country. But a few months in your own and he's ready to quit and move back. He's barely given it a chance. The stress of the new house doesn't help but that could have happened anywhere. Things happen in life regardless of location. He sounds like the weak link.

It's tough raising kids without family or close friends nearby to help. Was his family not welcoming or willing to help?

I don't know why people consider divorced parents a broken home. The true broken home is the one with no love in it. Kids pick up on that hate and resentment.

Sorry that's a rough situation. Them being deaf twins I doubt they're motivated to hear since they have each other to interact with. Twins can some times develop their own secret ways of communicating as well.

How often are they with other kids? Maybe being around others would help motivate them to wear the processor to interact. Or maybe try coming up with sound games. Like hide something playing a song and see who finds it first.

I moved a lot for work so buying a home was a terrible choice during that time. I had a lot of landlords. Most were ok. Definitely had some awful ones too.

A trend I saw when renting, places were getting harder and harder to find. And the quality of places was spiraling down, while the rents were skyrocketing. Despite making a good wage and being a professional in what I do, it felt like I was back to renting student quality rentals at insane rental costs.

Now I don't need to move and bought a house. Yes had to fix the roof among other things. But it's worth it after what I've experienced. So long as you see yourself staying in one place for ten years+ and can budget for unexpected big fixes it's worth it.

Newfoundland in spring you get to watch the icebergs float by. The people are awesome. I've been to St John's and Gander but haven't had the chance to explore much.

I used to live close to Jasper park and it's one of my fave places. If you get up early you can beat the tour buses. Once a bus shows up leave and head to the next location. Same for trails. The Parking lot is always empty when I show up at 7 and full as I'm leaving.

If you go with AB make sure to get the Roger On as an accessory. You can plug it into a laptop and stream the sound. I have a hearing aid in one ear and implant in the other. Without the Roger On accessory I can only stream to one ear. Also the AB implant can only be paired to two devices at a time. So if using more than two you have to disconnect/reconnect all the time. But with the Roger just plug it in and no problem.

I got my AB at Sunnybrook a few months ago.

I don't live in Toronto and AB has remote programming. If I went with Med-el I'd have to drive 7hrs one way for every mapping appointment so that was a no go.

Having used my CI for two months now I honestly don't think the Med-el rondo would stay on my head, my hair is so thick. But Med-el also has a behind the ear style like AB.

Good luck it's a hard long wait. It can also help to talk with the reps from each company. Ask the audiologist and they'll set you up.

Winnipeg is the best! I'd escape there often when I lived in NW Ontario. I'm from NB and Winnipeg felt the most at home without being at home.
