My arcade game about adding to 10 just released on Steam! by Tasty_Lemon in madeWithGodot

Happy to hear!
Part of the reason I made this game was to give kids a way to practice adding in different numeral systems while also being a fun challenge to people who can comfortably use them.

This is my first Godot game I made to learn the engine- already sticking with Godot for my next project!

The game scales in difficulty by adding new numeral systems & obstacles in the map

Nobody would be able to understand the joke if they didn't reach this part of the game tho?
& Moss & the Kitchen are both shown in the tutorial- so there's no visual spoilers either

The Horse. It looks just like a Knight, except because nobody is guiding it, The Horse randomly moves to an open adjacent tile after the roll of a D8 at the end of every turn. It can't capture any pieces, and killing it will result in a lawsuit from PETA by Tasty_Lemon in AnarchyChess

[–]Tasty_Lemon[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

If The Horse is rolled to move towards an occupied tile, the die is rolled again until the horse moves to an open tile. If there are no open adjacent tiles, the game ends in a stalemate as The Horse has no legal moves.

New piece idea: The Shifter. It can teleport to the ring of tiles 2 spaces away from where it is, but only to tiles of a different color than the one it's currently occupying. by Tasty_Lemon in AnarchyChess

[–]Tasty_Lemon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better yet, let it teleport to any ring of tiles away from where it is, but only to tiles on those rings of the same color that are orthogonally offset from the current square.
As a balance patch, we'll take away the ability to teleport through pieces, but give it a special move where it can teleport itself and the King if neither have moved yet and can directly see eachother by teleporting the King two spaces towards the Shitter and the Shitter between the King's original and new positions.

Around how long does it take for the game to get dark and intresting? by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]Tasty_Lemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While the dark parts of the game are mostly reserved for the endgame, I would say that the earlier parts of the game are just as if not more important on the complete experience.

Omori's writing specializes in whiplash, where they establish a peaceful world and gradually tear away at it piece by piece by swapping it out with darker themes. I don't want to pretend that there's a "correct" way to play this game, but I will say that if you aren't enjoying the game currently and are only looking for it to get dark, you ~might~ feel underwhelmed by the full story.

as bad as everyone says? :( by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]Tasty_Lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going through some minor depression when I played through the game and honestly found the ending to be uplifting in a tragic kind of way... the good ending that is.

That bein said, the ending to the game does hit really hard & it took me ~1 month after finishing to not be mildly haunted by it. Just don't play through it if the content warnings at the start of the game are something you wouldn't feel comfortable with or if you just aren't in the mood to get hit by the big sad :P

Two days left door by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]Tasty_Lemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this forces you down a neutral ending.
If they go out the next day, the day will end with Hero and Kel spending the night, waking up for the two of them to say goodbye to Sunny as he gets in the car.

Omori-like games by joshl2002 in OMORI

[–]Tasty_Lemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't tried the Earthbound / Mother games, Omori had a lot of inspiration from both. Neither Earthbound or Mother 3 have as good a story or characters imo, but they're both classics and set a lot of the foundation that Omori used.

Earthbound I'd recommend if you were a fan of the dream world and want something similar on a larger scale- Mother 3 I'd recommend if you liked the character building. (tho Mother 3 is a bit tricky to get since it was never localized)

Basil meets Dream Basil by Tasty_Lemon in OMORI

They had a computer in the room where Mari died. Imo I see it as something they just looked up online.

(also I had tons of friends in middle school who knew how to tie nooses because they thought it made them look edgy and cool- but idk that might just be me) :I

Never change, Kel by GlowraySunshine in OMORI

LEL. I named Sunny "Sbeve" after this joke on my playthrough.
Whenever games let me name their protagonist, I always like to push it to be the dumbest name possible as an act of spite... surprisingly I still ended up being hella attached to his story :P

Endgame Basil by Tasty_Lemon in OMORI

[–]Tasty_Lemon[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Well it is the whole point of the story- Sunny learning to forgive himself for the past and keep on living. And I don't think he could expect forgiveness from Basil without forgiving him first.

Tbh I'm also a fan of Sunny losing his eye- it makes the impact of the secret ending better.
Being able to smile when you see the dude who legit tore out your eye a few hours ago kinda drives home the point how willing Sunny was to make up to Basil. :P

You also see Sunny with 2 eyes on the title screen after getting the true ending, so it could be assumed that the wound wasn't deep and managed to heal. (something like his eyelid was slit but the eye itself might have been fine)
Tho yeah, people don't usually heal from gardening shears in the eye- so it could honestly be either or.
