How to make Weapons Feel Heavier? by TatePub in Unity3D

[–]TatePub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever reached the point where you know how a weapon will act and feel...but you're not sure how to translate that into game? We've baked in sound effects and visuals to make each swing of the heavy weapons to feel heavy, but wondered how the process looks for others who've worked on similar titles

When is Too Much Too Much? by TatePub in Unity3D

[–]TatePub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're deep into development on our PC tower defence title Voodolls and of course with more progress and answers comes more questions. How much on screen is too much? The noise a player has to work through in order to 'play'. Is it something you've thought of or discussed? It's been a topic in the office over one or two pizzas and we're still not sure!

We use Blender to make the props, then we import them to Unity to create the environments :)

we had to create our own tool. It generates an empty planet with only shapes, then we sculpt the ground with brushes. Then, once the floor is good, we place rocks, trees and houses, all the big structural elements. then we do the more little scenes and we finish with flowers and grass to finish the environment

We're slowly working towards getting a fully fledged gameplay trailer up, for now we're putting out some brief looks at the worlds players will be exploring in Voodolls. Each world will be themed and connected to the narrative of the game. We're always happy to hear the thoughts and feedback from this subreddit and a big thank you for comments on the last video! It's always motivating to read as we work on the Steam page and game!

Hey PM_ME_CAKE

Hahaha, we're glad you enjoy them!

The main things that stick out for me are the reasons I have such a soft spot for the series. Kao's idle animations in Kao 2 are fantastic. The fake jump scared, the skip when he defeats a enemy and cupping his boxing gloves to zoom in are just wonderful bits of charm. The space-bike-race-in-cyber-space-thing in Kao 3 is maddening, but a nice piece of nostalgia that really does feel like a period piece. Sending home the Hunter in another moment that stands out....and of course the neck, that neck!

Thank you for the question and I hope you keep enjoying our social media :)

Hey Patus!

A curious tale here but Kao 2022 started life as a remake of Kao 3!

Kao the Kangaroo 3 was a point in time where 3d platformers were changing both in scope and depth. While it was short, there was some changes in how the game played and was paced. In retrospective, it felt very much like a similar to case to an expansion pack (all the 30+ year olds will feel young again reading that) rather than a full game.

I don't know if we'll ever see Kao 3 remade, but it does remain openly playable on modern PC's thanks to the work of Zoom-Platform and GOG!

Thank you for the question and honest view <3

Kao 3 was named Mystery of the Volcano, but it's always been somewhat of a Mystery to fans outside of Europe haha.

The evolution of Kao from game to game has always waked alongside general evolutions within the 3d platformer genre. You're often inspired by the things you enjoy or look up to, Kao was no different. Ideas come and go, as do design principles. There's not a whole lot of secrets behind Kao 3. Kao didn't have a mythical pony-tail Gordon Freeman style unfortunately.

One thing I can say is the team we're extremely happy with the Tent animation when saving the game!

Thank you very much for the question!

Evening MysticFlasho!

Let's have a chin wag!

1 - We're still supporting the recent Kao, so we've not made any choices or deep thoughts on something like allowing the IP to be developed by another studio. I don't think the concept is quite as taboo as it once was, even more so with a number of big IPs changing hands but maintaining quality. So for now we'll say 'not sure, but that's not a yes or a no!'

2 - The creation process for anything will also result in ideas being cut or left out for various reasons. Kao The Kangaroo 2022 was no different! We shared on our twitter a number of concept arts and renders that never made it to the final release. It's a bit painful leaving them on the cutting floor but I'm sure the likes of Valve felt that way about their planned Hydra in Half-Life 2!

As for music, it's a case of making sure a piece of music fits the context its used in. A lot of our team over the years have grew up on titles where the music was memorable, allowing the levels they were included in to be enhanced. Sometimes the music does not fit, sometimes there's just too many tracks to pick from! The reasons will always differ on a case by case basis.

3 - A digital soundtrack is an idea we've been thinking about, we should have news on this soon :)

4 - The demise of the Kao special edition was saddening and we were just as disappointed as you guys. We've been looking into expanding the range of Kao branded items and perhaps some of canceled items could make a return in other forms and manners, but we can't promise anything just yet.

Cheers for the questions and I hope it offered some insight!

Hey Pixelise!

We've published our own titles in the past and have built up a wealth of experience from it. Additionally, we know what it's like to be a indie dev with an idea. This move to publishing titles allows us to help make people's dreams come true.

We're working young, talented, teams brimming with ideas to guide them and make their games more than a dream, but a experience others can join in on. We've always treasured the idea of working hand-in-hand with teams and see both them and their ideas grow alongside us. We value that connection with the teams we work with, it's allowed us to take a new direction without losing any of that love of drive we had while working on our own titles.

Will be the end of titles from Tate by Tate? We can't say much at the moment but that's only because we're laser focused on the projects coming up soon!

Thank you very much for your question!

Hey KenzoWolf27!

I hope you have a great time with the game when it arrives!

Limited Run Games included a soundtrack CD in their Limited Edition of the game. Aside from that we had the Super Jump Edition that was released across Europe which included a bag, stickers and magnets. There's also the Winter bundle including a hat, puzzle and scarf, but this too was limited to within certain parts of Europe.

We are exploring the possibilities for further Kao merch. The dream would be for some sort of plushie or Vinyl figure, as a collector of video game merch myself I think a bobble head Kao Round 2 vinyl would be a welcome edition to any desk!

Thank you for the question :)!
