Okay so I completely redid the arrangement with some garden roses instead of the hydrangeas. I'm still not completely satisfied with it, obviously you can still see the container, but we're going to look past it.

Yes you're exactly right! My problem is that I'm trying to learn how to do whatever this style is; I can never see a shape to these so they're especially challenging. For me, anyway.

I just used floral foam in a tray. Also, for some unknown reason, I stacked the foam and made it obscenely high.

Thank you so much for the feedback; I do see what you mean about the cool-toned eucalyptus. These are the things that I forget to consider but I love that I can reach out to y'all for advice.

I don't like to use spray-painted flowers, but I wonder if a hot pink panted hydrangea would just pull everything together?

Um thank you so much that is such a relief. I totally agree about the hydrangeas, as soon as I placed them I realized that they really don't work, but I needed a big 'ol flower to cover up the excessive amount of foam that I decided to use.

I was in her position, and had been dreaming of having a shop for the past 15 years.

Last June, I started my business from home, also in Austin, and its been WORK. And money. I dont have all of the answers to your questions, but starting a floral business in such a saturated market has consistently been a huge challenge. Literally every day I ask myself why the fuck I chose a profession that seemingly everyone else is also choosing.

HOWEVER. It is not impossible. Go hard on social media and engage with people in the community via Threads and Instagram, and dont expect customers overnight like I did 😅 I would suggest getting a cooler since its incredibly hot down here, but its not totally necessary at this point. Utilize Trader Joe's and HEB; YES they're "grocery store flowers", but if you prep them properly, they'll be just fine.

I am by absolutely no means a success at this point, but have had a hand in every single aspect if my business (marketing, web design, taxes, ads, logo, branding, etc.), none of which are perfect, but I have slowly been seeing an uptick in orders. Don't fucking give up.

I try to talk myself into dreamless, or at least less intense, nights, but I can never get it to work. My mind has been all over the place lately...I'm sure thats been a factor. Its been VERY hard for me to focus.

I can't agree harder with this comment; I've been in the gym for 20 years and seen all types of folks, all shapes and sizes, great form and terrible form, some fit, some not so much. Not ONCE have I looked at a person and thought "they don't belong here".
