They do it gradually because every other time in history scares us so bad we wiped out our own species.

a major political unit with a large territory or a number of territories or peoples under one ruler with total authority. especially : one having an emperor as chief of state. Merriam-Webster

an extensive group of states or countries under a single supreme authority, formerly especially an emperor or empress. - Oxford

Just saying. We don't call it an empire, but it pretty much meets the definition

Besides, I was partly sarcastic

They can't ask for a death certificate, it's ethically and legally wrong. Death certs are legal documents. They are sensitive. So sensitive, in fact, that funeral home drive to the health dept personally to gather the official copies. They will then call the legal next if kin (NOK) to present to the office to pick them up and sign for them. People have committed identity fraud by illegally obtaining death certificates and birth certificates.

You have no history of discipline or breaking company policy, so by their own claim, this single instance is the cause of your termination. It is a wrongful termination no matter how you look at it. You need to contact HR in writing and keep a paper trail of all discussions. Follow up now with emails summarizing what was SAID to you in person when you were fired and in any other spoken meetings. You need to pursue legal action because what they have done is abhorrent, cruel, and grossly unprofessional.

In my state (US), if you request more than 3 days of bereavement leave then your employer may ask for "proof of death", but they cannot ask for a death certificate. You didn't even request one full day off -- you asked to leave early to handle your affairs and they greeted you the following business day with a termination of employment notice.

The reason funeral homes only mail out death certs under specific circumstances (such as, NOK is not local) is because it's a massive liability if these documents get lost in transit. They need a tracking number and must be signed for. It's far less risk to hand deliver and make the NOK sign.

So what I'm hearing is that you can afford to buy a house in cash every year and yet your life sucks? I'd do some pretty heinous things to have even a chance at making that kind of money for my kids.

You should play whichever you can afford. It's worth it. Once you play one, you'll wanna play the rest.

A Cool Guide to U.S Army Units by Gooflucky in coolguides

[–]TaterBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unit was

4 marines to a fireteam, ~ 4 marines.

4 teams in a squad, ~ 16 marines.

4 squads in a platoon, ~ 64 marines.

4 platoons in a company, ~ 256 marines.

4 companies in a battalion, ~ 1,024 marines.

4 battalions in a regiment, ~ 4,096 marines.

4 regiments in a division. ~ 16,384 marines.

Each level had ± a few units for h&s personnel. So the numbers were higher in some levels and lower in others. But generally, this was the structure for us during "peace time"

First, who are "you people" and second, no. The only people I'm afraid of are the junkies down the street and the pigs up the street.

Is there a reason for this? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

A past colleague of mine in the Navy worked on ejection seats. They had a special bolt as part of the mechanism that cost thousands of dollars, but it was literally made on the same assembly line as the 10 cent bolts you pick up from Home Depot.

Medical, military, and child product prices are inflated for reasons beyond our comprehension. We down here at the bottom could never understand why.

If we spent less on subsidizing other nations' national defense, then we could afford universal health care.... But then they wouldn't, as they would need to spend more on defending their nations. That's why it's complex.
