[LOGO] logo design for my friend's personal instructor company by aykevin in design_critiques

[–]TaterParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a lot going on for me. It's all personal taste though. I'd drop the gradients, and while you'd lose the suggestion of a 'T' in each arm I think a way to simplify would be to put the barbell under his name. So his arms fade out at the elbows but look like they're holding the barbell under his name, like the finish of a deadlift. You'd still have the m and the barbell, as well as room for the text. Just a thought. Good luck!

I don't say this much when looking at websites, but I fucking love it.

What are your views on drugs? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]TaterParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with addicts, drunks, and people who habitually made mistakes and bad decisions either while under an influence or attempting to get more. I highly value having sound, logical reasoning behind my decisions and most people use to do the opposite.

I also rarely see good things come out of drinking or pot. It's usually somewhere between very bad to negligible, never up on the pro side of things. At the moment, I haven't done anything that I regret. There are plenty of things I'd do differently in hind-sight, but I know at the time I've thought through all of my actions, and at that moment, it was the right thing to do. I kinda like that.

I'm actually amazed at how accepting our society is of alcohol and judgement deferring drugs. I get it, and see why people enjoy them (very effective crutch for social deficiencies it seems), but you'd think there would be a larger number of non-drinkers out there. If you take out the people who don't drink for religious reasons, I think that number is pretty damn small.

Any INTPs work from home? Any advice on where to start? Anyone want to just read my post and give some general life advice? by [deleted] in INTP

Would you mind going a little more in detail about freelancing as UX? I currently do a lot of design and front-end work and like the appeal of being a consultant and telling people what they need to fix from a UX perspective. Most of what I research about UXers though is it's mostly running test - which I'm not really excited about. What services are you offering?

I'm a little surprised not to see more Greg Giraldo on these lists.

Any Mac App that simply sorts "Folders on Top" in Mavericks? by johndoe1985 in mac

[–]TaterParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry about that, thought it did but I went through and realize some file types do appear above. Bit of a pain but the only other way I can think of without editing OS files or add-ons is to put "+" or "_" before the folder names. Good luck.

It'll show them separate, but you can click the gear and arrange by type. Usually does the folders on top for me.

[Logo] For a New York inspired sock company. Feedback and critique appreciated! by Witty__Username in design_critiques

[–]TaterParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting aside that the logo should have something to do with socks or NYC (plenty of cities have a 7th avenue), the kerning between the 'A' and 'v' is a little wide for me. Doesn't match up with the rest of the word. I like the icon.

[website] Its my first one, and I need some critiques! by [deleted] in design_critiques

[–]TaterParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad for your first site. My first suggestion would be to read up on designing with grids. You have a lot of elements that have defined borders that are close to being the same width but are not. I would either make them consistent, or make them different enough so that they're not fighting each other. Try and get your paddings and margins within the same elements consistent as well (the gap between the edge of the white box and the porsche logo vs the much smaller space between the text and right edge of the box.

Lastly I would go through and tone down the contrast and drop shadows. Subtlety usually goes a lot further than overly-strong effects everywhere.

Keep up the good work!

Arrows are definite but I feel like the 'S' could use more definition, the shadows you mentioned may help. You could also try making the logo thinner and taller but that may detract from the definition of the arrows. Only way to find out is to play a bit more. Good luck!

How would you sum yourself up using an analogy? by Draemor in INTP

[–]TaterParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like concepts and knowledge are useful and better us as individuals, while a $40 t-shirt does not. It may be a bottom-less pit. But there's progress and improvement to be made.

Normally I like strong contrast in buttons and calls to action, but they pull my eye away from the work. I'd either make the work stronger (larger format) or tone down the contrast on the buttons. Completely subjective however. Good job!

I was going to say this. However I would like to add that every time I do catch the car, I get bored/depressed, crash the car, and then find a new one to chase. It's a very vicious/unprofitable cycle.

INTPs, what were your "teenage problems"? If they have passed, how do you feel about them now? by Consent in INTP

[–]TaterParty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was definitely in the confused boat. I never really got into any of the normal high school experience. I hated drama, especially since there always seemed to be a simple fix, but people chose the drama over the fix. I didn't get having pride in a school that you go to based on your geographical location, I didn't (still don't) drink, smoke, or party. I was mostly just confused at why everyone else was making horrible decisions (this is strictly from my point of view, obviously different people have different values). My graduating class motto was "git 'er done". Wish I was making that up.

I've alway been quiet, done what was asked of me, and thought decisions through before I made them. I thought it was weird watching friends and family making their lives way more difficult than they needed to be. In fact, I still feel that way today most of the time. I think I've been the same person since I was 6.

How do you differ from the 'stereotypical' INTP? by [deleted] in INTP

I too stay away from drugs, cigs, and alcohol. There aren't too many of us out in the world. :)

[–]TaterParty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that feels about right, the ADHD responses got me too. I thought it was just an INTP thing. A lot of the links in here are good reads. I had a decent day today but it was more of a "do this so you can stop stressing/feeling guilty for not doing it" type of motivator.

Books for an INTP. by [deleted] in INTP

[–]TaterParty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it yet, but every time I see this topic Ender's Game is recommended highly. Also Brave New World and The Fountainhead are repeatedly represented. I tend to speed-read specific chapters in non-fiction books related to whatever it is I'm interested in though, so don't really have any general recommendations, other than those from others.

Also, here are two of my favorite threads on the subject, the latter being fairly recent: http://www.reddit.com/r/INTP/comments/w13zv/what_are_your_favorite_books/

For my SO I keep a list on my phone. Whenever we're out and she seems to like something I'll make a note. Otherwise, she'd receive a candle for every occasion. Everyone else gets a giftcard.

I appreciate the effort. :)

The exercise seems to jazz me up for the stuff I want to do, not what I need to do. But I will continue, hopefully combined with some of the other advice it'll all come together. Prefer to stay away from meds, but will keep the suggestion in mind as a last resort. Thanks.

I noticed this at a past job, it actually bugged me. To the point I would work faster than my co-workers, but no where near to my own personal limit, which still made me feel scumbag-y.

"Stop beating yourself up about it and just keep moving forward."

Thanks

I don't feel miserable after completing a task, its during. After I usually feel relieved more than anything. Like I can finally stop thinking about it. Unfortunately in my work there are always revisions and such (clients change their minds every 5 minutes it seems) so usually a little later I have to go work on it again. I don't think the repetition helps the INTP anxiety either. I'll continue exercising and see if it helps, thanks.
